Got a new PSU, everything seems louder and hotter.

Go to solution Solved by STRMfrmXMN,

I bought a Seasonic M12II Evo 620W PSU. It arrived yesterday and I swapped it out for my cx600m. I have a r9 390 and was advised by a few people to get a better psu for it.

The psu seems a bit louder than my older one, or maybe my pc is running louder. Do I have to do something? I went away from my pc a few minutes ago, and when I came back in to the room it sounded really loud.

Usually my pc is quite quiet. I was running GTA V when this happened. I also checked speccy so see my temps and they were all around 60 or a bit higher.

I just restarted but I am worried I might have messed something up during install or I have to configure it or something.

So pretty much, I got a Seasonic M12II Evo 620W to replace my cx600m and everything is much louder. Do I need to change something to make it quieter or is everything ok?

My pc also seems a bit hotter. I also have no OC's.

Iirc the M12 is loud.

Replace the cx right away you might be able to use it until you save up for a quality power supply.

What are your temps? Have you identified which components are making the noise?

He had a power supply = no weird loud noises

Suddenly he replaces it with a corsair cx and the loud noises start. Surely the psu is to blame

He replaced the CX psu with the M2II. Not the other way around.

The M2II isn't a quiet unit so that is what could be causing the increase in noise. For a increase in temperatures, I am not seeing how the psu switch would cause that.

Well it seems a good bit louder at times. Could it have been that my gpu wasnt getting enough power to power the fans at full speed?

M12II is louder on purpose. Part due to the cheaper ball bearing and part due to keeping temps lower.

It's not too bad now. It seems to only happen for a little while when playing intensive games and then quiet down again. I was worried that something might have gone wrong when I was putting the new psu in but everything seems ok now.

Thanks everyone!
