Is it okay to install a cpu without thermal paste for a few days?

I've got a watercooling block but I'm out of thermal paste and I've got to order some online.

We arent responsible for anything going up in flames, but everything uses thermal paste for a reason.

Toothpaste is actually pretty effective as a (hopefully temporary) thermal conductor. It's just a bit sticky to clean off.

no. don't even think about it unless you're NOT turning the system on. in which case, do not screw the block down tightly at all, just enough for it not to fall off

Yeah, I had no idea for a long time. I only found out when asking about thermal paste and somebody posted a chart from anandtech. Smooth peanut butter was there, toothpaste, a few other odd things that weren't actual thermal paste or thermal grease. I though it was a joke, but anandtech usually doesn't joke.

if you have any silicone oil or any other type or synthetic or mineral oil, it could hold up for couple of days if not more

Just use water or petrol, those are really good and you can use them for years
