Difference between sunlight sticks and cold cathodes

Go to solution Solved by W-L,

If your just wanting single color red LED's yes I would be a good method of hoking them up and powering them just don't overdo it with the length since a fan header can't power the entire 5M roll. Here check under wiring up LED's for general info on it:

Title

Thanks (also, @colonel_mortis @Slick @LinusTech @Godlygamer23 , you should make a new sub forum, "lighting" as I didn't know where to put this thread.

Thanks :)

If your talking about theses "sunglight sticks" they are just a marketing term for rigid LED strips that are enclosed in a tube, I would recommend LED's over CCFL due to long lifespan and ease to use:

Not to mention electrical noise from the CCFL drivers -_-

^That'll do for category.

Sunlight sticks look like a tube full of LEDs.

Cathodes are gas filled tubes with a light emitter i think.

I've never used CCFL before but I assume some inverters can suffer from coil whine since they need to use AC voltage.

Ya, they have a high voltage high frequency switching driver inside them and unless you keep that crap far away from everything else, you can often hear it in the soundcard's analog I/O

Yeah, Linus was talking about how the cathodes had a inverter that melted in his case

Where was this?

Don't bother with CC lighting. LED strips last longer and don't require an inverter.
