Troubleshooting 980ti and low CSGO fps

Well, I upgraded my gpu to a 980ti from a AMD 7970 and my fps in csgo is shit, I have stutter, lag etc... Average fps is around 90 and it drops as low as 50.

 

With my old 7970 I had better fps blablabla etc... Something is not right, I've treid verifying game cache, didnt help. Got any ideas?

All other games seems to run fine, Fallout, skyrim, amra 3 (well thats not true, arma has always run like shit lol) Also got the newest nvidia drivers.

Is suspicious that the CPU heavy games (Arma etc) are running like rubbish... as other people have said, possible CPU issue.

it's not. If I can get 100fps with a Athlon II x2 250 then he should be getting 500

It's your CPU. The Source engine is a highly CPU intensive engine. You can either upgrade your CPU (Recommended) or try -threads 6 in launch parameters.

That's also why Arma 3 runs bad since I get ~40 FPS max with a 980 and an i7...

That's VERY odd as I get 250-300 consistently with a 4590 and R9 280.

Well the funny thing is that cs ran better with a 7970 and cs is the only game that runs worse, arma 3 runs much better than before wich leads me to belive its a software problem not a hardware problem.

Could be. Nvidia's recent drivers have been sub-par and Volvo also fucked up optimization a bit

Why do you have a top of the line GPU with a shit CPU? I highly suggest upgrading your CPU, because right now you're wasting money by not getting full performance. That should be on your to do list of upgrades.

Thats true but it's not enough of an performance increase to be worth investing in right now.

 

And it seems that my main suspect aka CSGO is the problem, did some digging and tweeking in the cfg files and boom 300fps. But there is something serously wrong with the files so they need some futher tweeking. And does anybody know where cs stores all of it cfg other than in the; C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Counter-Strike Global Offensive\csgo\cfg cause I'm missing files and old configs are fucking with my new setting, but I can't find the damn files.

Did you fix in launch options so it uses all 6 threads? If yes then go for OC!  

(also Windows 8.1 or 10 helps cause 7 is not so good to use cores)

View CPU usage per thread, not total, also view GPU and RAM usage. Does an overclock improve FPS much?
