Maybe for normal unaware people who let windows download whatever updates it chooses to, or the idiots that agreed to send microsoft data, but before windows 10 not unless you fell in the idiot category

Either way old news is old

No they don't.

This just in: cookies spy on what websites you go to.... and every website has them.....

Yes, they do. Windows 8 did it since launch, and Windows 7 recently had an upgrade of some sort to turn it on. It just doesn't phase me.

The telemetry updates in Windows 7 and 8 are optional, can be blocked, and can be uninstalled after they've been downloaded. Not the same situation as Windows 10. And people didn't lose their stuff over them in Win 7 / 8 because they weren't there originally, they can be blocked, and they can be uninstalled. Since those updates were pushed to Win 7 / 8, people did lose their stuff - just not as much as regarding Win 10 - because they could prevent them from installing, and uninstall them if they already installed.

Point is, it's a big deal, regardless of which OS it's on. It's simply a manageable one on Win 7 / 8.

So when you say "People just did't know and therefore never flipped shit", you're trying to mitigate reaction to the issue by disseminating false information.

It would seem that, regardless of your privacy settings, Windows 10 still contacts the server  on a regular base.

For the record, Telemetry & Windows Updates can be turned off for whatever reason you would want to, just look at my signature.

That's a great link, I'll apply it to my Windows 10 boot. Thanks.

To suggest that anyone is hiding from MS is to imply that what a person does belongs to MS in the first place, and therefore not to the person. You are expressing yourself as if you are less than a person, and that a part of you, and your activity is property of a corporation. That's already a big problem, and it doesn't lead to any place that's good.

I honestly don't mind most of the spying. Nerdgasm found out that some Windows system apps ignore the hosts file. This is where I might have a problem with it.

This is why MS servers need to be blocked in a person's router, and not the hosts file.

I just can't understand why you would care so much and still use windows. Go with some linux OS and only use tor I guess.

but dude earlier windows versions have been doing same shit. are you seriously suggesting that microsoft somehow looks into the data of hundreds of millions of people? that is just insane, they dont give a shit about the port i crave, they just want data to most likely advertise. tell me something concerning that could happen from this and i will do something about that. i have aerotweaker and just found a tutorial to turn off windows spying from registry.

How does a person use Windows software on Linux? And what does Tor have to do with spying within an OS? You comment appears to be casting Windows as though it should be ubiquitously understood as officially an invasive piece of software.

There is no sound rationale in saying that because a corporation may not look at specific things that it is OK to have a corporation probing within personal space.

As invasive as your browser already is. If you for some reason you feel like you have something hide that you didn't get online, you could also have a separate computer for offline tasks and vise versa. I'm just telling you some options that may be viable if you really care.
