Ubuntu on laptop only because win 10 technical preview was like "yo, since you didn't update enough we're gonna shut down your computer every 3 hours" and I was all like "Fuck you I've been trying to update for like 7 months but it won't update" so yeah, fuck tech preview basically.

 

Have two on raspbian, a zorin, a centOS, an arch and a RHEL. Last 3 are external servers

Although I am a Windows user, I am considering getting Ubuntu on my desktop as my main os. I have it on my laptop and I find it is brilliant!

I'm actually pretty impressed by how good the Linux community on this forum is.
I would rate our Linux Community better than most dedicated Linux forums I've ever used.
I'm finding that there are more windows troubleshooting threads that go unanswered here than Linux ones.

I'm currently using CentOS 7 on one of the servers in my basement "data center" (ha!)  That was set up specifically to experiment with KVM and doing virtual networking with various VMs.

 

I've been using Linux since 93, back when distributions were a pile of 3.5" floppy disks or a single CD.  I stopped using Linux on the desktop/laptop when Apple started using BSD underneath OS X.  From then on, Linux had a place as a server OS and router OS, but not as a desktop/laptop OS.

 

Over the last year, I've worked diligently to de-Linux the servers in my house in favor of FreeBSD.  Other than the aforementioned KVM server, along with the TiVo in my living room, I'm completely Linux-free here.  FreeBSD or bust.

I'm using Arch on my laptop as an only OS and in a VM on my desktop which has Win10. Nice to see that there are more and more linux users. 

 

What DE do you use? Or do you prefer WMs?

Personally I prefer DEs. I've learned to rely on a mouse much to heavily. 
I use XFCE on my desktop and Gnome on my laptop. (I actually really like the Gnome 3 UI, although I feel as if I'm the only one on the planet.) I use XFCE on my desktop because I don't like how gnome 3 handles multiple monitors. To just use on 1 screen though Gnome is my favourite DE. 

I've tried many others but I always end up back at gnome or XFCE.

I like how the user interaction with Gnome 3 works. There are other things about it that's making me consider other DEs. There's not really a way to set the refresh rate and make it persistent. I have to set it at each boot or make a script that does this for me. I've looked into this and it seems that the devs don't know how to implement this properly, making me worry that the Gnome 3 devs may be a bit incompetent.

I used openSUSE, Debian, Ubuntu, Xubuntu, Lubuntu, Ubuntu GNOME, Fedora 22, Fedora 22, CentOS7, Arch Linux, LFS, Red Hat EL, SUSE Enterprise Desktop, elementaryOS.

And my favourite so far was openSUSE. I use Lubuntu at the moment, might switch to openSUSE as i bought this new SSD. YaST2 is slow on a HDD.

I started with GNOME2 on Ubuntu 9.10 if I'm not mistaken and I've used many WMs but right now I'm on MATE because I really like GNOME2 and how it looked and felt. MATE continues to provide that .

 

GNOME3 looks really cool though but my laptop is on the weaker side when it comes to specs so I didn't want to experiment with it. We have XFCE on our terminals in school and it also looks really nice and people who never used Linux are starting on that DE so they find it easy to use (except when they somehow close panels and they can't make them appear again )

Arch here (for my PC), I also use Debian (at workplace), and Ubuntu + Kali (laptop).

My favorite is Arch though it's a pain at first.... But it's worth it (for me).

I'm currently trying CentOS (in VirtualBox).
