£920 ($1395) Gaming Rig

Go to solution Solved by Mullen_S,

This is what I came up with. It is right at your budget, it looks great and would completely crush games you wanted to play at max setting, 60 fps. This is it,

https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/user/Mullen/saved/#view=rgPrxr   It has a window which you would like and includes a 250gb SSD for those fast load times. You could change the R9 390 to a 970 if you really want to get nvidia which I completely understand with driver issues, it would only cost a little bit more. Also, the 4690k is overclockable so you can get an aftermarket cooler for £20 like the Hyper 212 Evo when you have a bit of extra spare money which will give you great overclocks. Hope you have fun building this :)

This is my first build, I don't have any experience with part picking.

1. Budget & Location: UK, £920 (1395 USD, 1895 CAD)

2. Aim: This is meant to be my gaming rig, built after Christmas, the budget is just an estimation. I'll mostly be playing last generation games (Far Cry 3, Payday 2, KSP and some others) and only a few newer ones (I like the look of Just Cause 3) which I'm happy to run at lower settings. An SSD would be nice for booting. I'll also be using it for some student work and internet browsing. Windows 10 is allso part of the budget.

3. Monitors: 1080p The monitor will be my only one and is part of the budget. I don't mind if it's not brilliant. I might add an extra monitor but I doubt I'd use it for surround gaming, just media and internet things.

4. Peripherals: A 1080p Monitor. My keyboard will last and I'll get a better mouse later.

5. Why are you upgrading: My current setup can only run games like Far Cry 3 and Payday 2 at 30 fps at low-medium settings. Also, my screen is 5:4 (1280x1024) so that needed replacing since most games don't support it too well (and it's ugly). I'm upgrading from a Home PC (which I can't upgrade permanently) with an AMD Radeon 6570, an AMD-FX-4100 Quad-Core at 3.6Ghz and 4GB of RAM.

My Build: Night Fury | i5-6600k @ 4.5Ghz | R9 390 | 850 EVO 250GB | 1TB Seagate | H230 Black

I could comfortably fit a GTX 970 with the monitor too!

yh id look at what werto sent, and probably put in a 390 to save some money or just get a 970 if you prefer 970. Both are great for 1080p gaming =]

Yeah I'm happy with that one! I'm fine to upgrade later with the OCing. I might pick up a 970 becuase of the possibilty to stream it to a PI setup. PIs use ARM and Steam in Home Streaming isn't compatible. Limelight streaming is but only for NVidia.

Nice, looks great, just wondering if you were doing video editing or anything because if not you could invest the money you spent on 16gb of ram on a nice cooler to get some more performance out of that cpu

Don't buy from Newegg if you are in the UK. You will pay a lot extra in shipping/customs.

Also don't get a Corsair CX power supply. You want a better quality unit such as an EVGA G2/GS/GQ, XFX XTR, Antec HCG, Corsair RMx etc

Yes pcpartpicker is a good way to compare prices. Also you need to factor in delivery costs unless you can get free shipping. I find Amazon to be pretty good as you can get free delivery, and their prices are usually very competitive.

I just found a load with other UK sites, more expesive but total postage lower. I was about £70 worse off even with NewEgg's charge... £30 over budget.
