Why doesn't the Fallout 4 launcher have the 'Data files' option?

RollinLower

So this is more of a general question than anything, tough it has me wondering for quite a while, and i really can't find anything online.

In the screenshot below i have the launchers of Skyrim, Fallout 3 and Fallout 4, tough only Fallout 4 doesn't have the 'Data files' option.

zIqudlQ.jpg?1Anybody have an idea as to why?

Because mods aren't officially supported yet, launcher will be updated when GECK gets released. If you want to be sneaky though, click around under the left eye (his right) and see what you find.

Edit* Never mind they fucking removed it lol

It does, it's just hidden, you have to enable mods (plenty of tutorials), when you've done that you have to click to the left of the left eye.

The latest patch removed it. If you're trying to use mods what you have to do (assuming you're using NMM) is launch the game through NMM, when the launcher comes up go and reactivate your .esps in NMM, and then hit play on the launcher. The launcher deactivates the .esp files for some reason.

welp, that answered it. thanks guys!

guess i'll have to wait till they officially add mod support :P

You can still mod it now if you want, not very hard honestly just more difficult than it should be. There are some guides on reddit for the work around because apparently they just released a patch trying to stop us from modding it.

that kinda sucks tough. i remember in the FO4 E3 reveal that they where all "oh yeah we love mods we're gonna add all this mod support!" and now they patched it.

i guess i'm lucky i hadn't modded it yet. really wanted to play through it atleast once in it's vanilla form :P

They do love mods, they just fucked up and got into a contract with microsoft to allow mods on xbone and now they are seeing the repercussions of it. M$ probably got hint that they weren't doing anything to stop mods on PC and M$ made them change that because now PC retailers are taking money away from M$ because PC got exclusive first mods.

Who think Consoles could use Mods like the PC is naive anyway.

When I use the FO4 launcher it seems to mess with my settings so I created a shortcut straight to the game and edited Fallout4Prefs to fix :D

tldr , you can always bypass it if you dont like it

I think it is a great idea to have mods for consoles, I don't think consoles should be as locked down as they are. Just make it very clear that when you're doing something that isn't directly supported then any issues arise aren't going to be covered by support. Would bring a lot of life into making consoles gaming machines again in my opinion.

Sure its a nice thing. But MS want Consolegamers to think they could use any Mod.
