Well technically F mount is used only by Nikon, Sony A and E mounts are only used by Sony, etc... but yes the NX mount has a fewer lens selection than other mounts such as the Nikon F or Canon EF.  I think F-mount might have the largest selection of lenses available from through the decades, Nikon hasn't switched to using other mounts as often.

 

widest selection yes, but would you really want to use some of the old lenses? in terms of actual useful lenses i'd say they are pretty similar to canon.

Doubt it, one thing to consider is the NX-mount Samsung use for their lenses, they're the only ones using it which makes your lens selection quite shallow.

But that's just my opinion of course, I'd advice you to read and watch different reviews of different cameras to figure out what will work for you.

If you wanna see if you are going to like taking pics with a dslr. (and also need a new phone at the same time)

Get an LG G4 with a tripod, it has fairly "advanced" camera controls, like iso, shutter speed , WB, manual focus and stuff and it can take some really sweet pictures, even in very low light.

Though naturally DSLR is better but if you dont feel like carrying an extra thing around then it would be useless

Depends, its up to you really. If you're pixel peeping an iphone or note 5 is clearly better. And none of that "Ideal condition" bullshit. Unless its like an f2.8 lens then the d3300 will be shit compared to a phone even in low light. DSLRs especially nikon have bad video modes. Like really bad. Sometimes my iphone 6 can outperform my 70d. Look at casey neistat, his iphone 6s video looks better than any of his oversharpened soft 70d footage.

 

But of course the biggest thing about DSLRs, its the interchangable lens. Lenses with large aperatures like f2.8 can get you very shallow depth of field. And you can also have different focal length, 17mm for nice landscapes and 50mm for nice potraits. Phones can't do either of those well, maybe its okay for landscape. Not to mention DSLRs have great contrast and dynamic range, and much more control over your pictures. RAW files allow you to fix exposure and white balance and so on, although its troublesome.

Depends on the photographer, there are some great vintage lenses available for low prices.  Of course on most entry level camera bodies they will all be manual focus.  And some lenses will always remain MF on any camera body.  I'm not saying they should use these lenses, but the option is there for whoever wants to.

Not a huge fan of Sony menus either, but I like their features a lot more and the re-assignable buttons make navigation easier.

And I'd say Zeiss (Not Sony Zeiss) make some absolutely amazing lenses for the E-mount, I just feel like the E-mount ecosystem is easier to commit to with cameras such as the A7RII and A7SII as well as the Zeiss Batis lenses.

Not saying he shouldn't get a Samsung, I just wouldn't do it.

Nor am I saying he should go get a Sony A6000 right away, I think a point-n-shoot or an Olympus with a pancake lens would be well suited for OP based on his original post.

yeah, e-mount is a great platform to jump on especially seeing that metabones has a great e mount to ef autofocus adapter so you can use any canon glass you want. At this point in time, i would not buy a samsung mirrorless as they seem like they might drop the nx line as they have already discontinued the relatively new nx1 over in europe.

I can agree with that, I probably wouldnt buy samsung untill all the stuff about them exiting the camera business clears up.

I was looking at the Pentax K-3 II, seems to be way better price/features than the Nikon D7200 or the Canon 70D

 

at least when you don't account for lens selection.

 

and the native lens selection are probably better than sony e mount.

Like I said, I own a dslr (with cinestyle mind you) and an iphone 6 and I have compared them before. DSLR has its usual advantages like bigger aperture.

I don't think its better.. it IS better, clearly you know nothing about video if you cannot shoot better video on a DSLR vs a phone

 

You realise I make videos right? including running a YouTube channel etc, and have also help make music videos for local bands and stuff....the video on my iPhone 6 is nowhere near my Sony A7...I really only use it for its slow motion capabilities but they are not sharp at all, 

 

Heck I have about 6 TB of Go Pro, iPhone, APSC and Full frame DSLR footage (most DSLR footage is recorded on a Ninja Blade 2 so that I can record in pro res HQ for colour grading)

 

Is smartphone video good? sure.. its ok, but a DSLR will always outperform it, especially since iphone video is absolutely horrible in low light with its tiny sensor
