High Pitch Squeal In GPU Intensive Applications

Androkistis

I was running some Benchmarks(3DMark, Heaven, Valley) when my computer started to emit a really loud high pitch squeal.

I tried to figure out what was making the sound, unpluged all case fans to eliminate them. It's no the GPU fans since they weren't running. It can't be CPU fans since since CPU intesive programs don't

cause the sound.

As said it's coil whine usually from the GPU, there isn't much you can do about it since it's a bit of a lottery if you will or will not get it, but nothing to worry about.

IF i am not mistaken, Gigabyte GPU have a high chance of getting the coil whine than the rest of the brands, do correct me if i am wrong though :D

And the next one. Gigabyte fucked it up big time in case of 980Ti´s coilwhine. It leads the field by a mile on LTT. If possible RMA  it. It dont effect the power of the Card, but can be very annoying.

I watched a YouTube video just now of someone with the same card and coil whine...my sound is different and way louder. I'll RMA the card if that's the issue but I want to be sure that it's the problem first.

Coil whine is kind of unpredictable sometimes that specific PSU your using could cause it to whine more or less than another. See what they say in the RMA some may accept it, usually coil whine occurs on high fps so if you enable V-sync or set fps limits that can help prevent it.

Is there any way to confirm that it is the GPU and not the PSU. Don't want to RMA the wrong part.

Open up the case to pinpoint the source usually it's pretty easy to tell especially if you can hear whining from the back side of PSU.
