Are you a tech snob?

mbryant

I was in Office Depot yesterday trying to find my Girlfriend a scanner, I decided to browse through the laptops and monitors they had and noticed I'm a display resolution snob. I saw this Dell laptop and decided it was worth looking at and the first thing I did was check to see what the display resolution was and noticed it was 1366x768. I was appalled and said to myself "If I get a laptop it has to be 1920x1080". 1366x768 isn't a terrible resolution especially on screens smaller than 20". So I ask you, what are you a "snob" about?

Framerate. I cannot play anything with a low framerate (with 1 or 2 exceptions). By low, I mean anything below 50.

Interesting, probably common actually. I'm similar but if I want to play a game and I don't want to spend money on a new GPU I'll settle for a 30 minimum.

processors.

Me: "Really? your computer only has an i3?" Them: "What does that even mean."

HAHA I do the same thing, I'll look at someone's laptop that still has the intel sticker on it and go "Oh you ONLY have an i3? can that thing even run chrome?" I exaggerate of course.

That's fair, I spent about 50USD on my mech keyboard and even that I feel was a bit high.

Obviously haven't ever got a good mouse or keyboard then maybe if you constantly buy Razer stuff you would feel that way.

Yup. even though my dad rarely does anything hard-to-run on his computer, I REFUSE to get him anything less than an i5.

You know that guy that games on a MacBook? I'm that guy.

No, I just tell people their PSU is crap (because usually it is), don't cheap out on the component that powers you system and can burn down your house if it's bad, as that's just dumb. (if your rig is 1500 bucks why is your psu 25)

https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/631048-psu-tier-list-updated/ Tier Breakdown (My understanding)--1 Godly, 2 Great, 3 Good, 4 Average, 5 Meh, 6 Bad, 7 Awful

I've run into the same issue with a friend who wants a machine for MMO's and some other game type I can't remember. I know an AMD machine will do her fine but my parts lists always include an i5 4690K.

That one's fair as well, I mean it's not really snobby until you see someone with an 800 watt PSU and their system only draws 500 and you say "pffft you don't even have a 1000 watt PSU."

Also let me preface the use of the word "snob" I do not use it as an insult or derogatorily, I just like us being able to recognize our own faults.

hmmm, are you saying average? I mean what if your fps is between say 45-80?

Having used a pentium III with 512mb of ram as my only computer for months when I first got into computers there's very little I'm snobbish about. I am always ready to appreciate the value in an object if it is fairly priced and doesn't esulate from the realm of usability. What I do not condone are deliberate and (in my opinion) poor design choices on brand new and sometimes expensive devices. I can bear with a 768p laptop screen if the compromise has been made to allow for an ips panel or for better functionality on other fronts I consider important. I cannot bear with having a single port on a 1400$ device that has no other reason not to have more than supposed vision and subjective "good looks".

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

i would hate the dips to 45... even if its just a small moment, but if it is not frequent i can still play the game

I'm a snob when folks don't use multiquote or edits ;]

In all seriousness, I'm a snob about aesthetics. I like things that differ from the norm (without being ostentatious).

Monitor quality.

I see people with two monitor set ups where it's one decent monitor and then one like 1985 television and I'm like "jesus christ I'd rather just use the one monitor."
