For CPU's generally Intel is much better. AMD's architecture is quite old.

Because its not all about how many cores and how many GHz

Core performance matters too, and intel cores have higher performance than AMD cores

They use less power and have much more modern architectures. AMD's CPUs are over 5 years old

I keep hearing that intel is better than amd but at the  same price range of a quad-core 3.5 GHz u can get a 8  core 4.7 GHz. So why is intel better?

Intel CPU' s have a much higher single core performance.

Because there's more to a CPU than Core Count, and speed...

And AMD's not 8 core...

Just remember: Random people on the internet ALWAYS know more than professionals, when someone's lying, AND can predict the future.

AMD, hasn't updated their CPU line in ages, such as the motherboard and stuff. Intel has many more features and is often a better by because Intel CPU's are in most workloads that exist today in consumer industries.

trying not to over complicate things.

didnt amd just get caught lieing saying they had 8 cores when it was really just 4?

There is a whole topic about this,

Refer to this: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/479999-amd-faces-class-action-suit-over-bulldozer-missrepresentation/

We don't really need that to start here too.

Intel CPU's have a higher IPC(instructions per clock) which basically means that if you compare an AMD core to an Intel, the Intel core will be stronger(using AMD FX 15h and Intel Haswell as examples). Games tend to utilize one core or thread primarily, so the stronger core really shows, but in cases where multiple cores/threads are used then AMD cpus then show their strengths. So, it really depends on what you are doing with your PC, but in general don't let numbers like GHz or Core count affect your decision, and look at actual benchmarks or performance numbers.

I swear people make these threads just to stir the pot.

Some do some don't, depends how they word it, also newbs tend to ask it, which makes sense on the cpu side as ipc is not stated and cpu speed/core counts are the only stats advertised well, which mean nothing nowadays

Inb4 "flame wars".

Figure out your budget, then get whatever give you the most pang for your buck - depending on what your system is going to be used for.

That's what I had to do when my broke ass needed a new computer because the laptop I had through most of college died. That's why I'm running a pure AMD system right now.

No they didn't get caught they proved that it was 8 cores so they don't have to o anything...

Thing is, CMT is not SMT, and it can't be described in the same manner as its completely different. The correct description for CPU based on CMT, like the CPU/APU from Bulldozer to Steamroller is * modules, * threads/integer processing units/ALU.

first, you are trying to compare processor speed and core count in what

relationship? gaming? applications? web crawling? there are reasons there

are many CPUs and they all do something different in different build scenarios.

second, the why is still related to the first, in what aspect are you asking?

there have been a plethora of threads asking the same but with no qualifiers

no one can really answer your question.

Yes I know, but that's how it gt called and they are all cores that share cash and such and are crippled.
