Fallout 4 FPS might depend on your RAM speed

Bouzoo

Yeah, we need to see if this is true, and if it is, why is that way.

I could give a fuck why, I just want the game to run

If anyone asks you never saw me.

That isn't true.

Would you mind giving me some examples of past games that were that much limited by ram instead of CPU?

I could give a fuck why, I just want the game to run

I always want to know the details, even if something is out of my knowledge lol.

That's usually the case with me too, but this is Fallout and I just want to play.

Someone did a test on it on overclock.net, i'm sure if you google it you'll find it. It made a difference for me and them, so *shrugs* ram is important to the system so overclocking it will have an impact on performance in some form or another.

Interesting, still, spend a little bit more on your GPU, those <10FPS gain is not that much worth the price of faster ram, ram might look cheap but it's almost double the price that I paid for my 1600MHz ones a few years ago.

I seem to have a special copy of fallout. Playing on 1440p ultra in a 6700k with 16GB 3000 MHz DDR4 memory and a 980 ti currently at 1409 (was 1450 but BOP3 drivers broke my OC) . i get atound 90 fps and need to lock it on riva tuner to 60 so tgat I don't get stuck in computer terminals.

Running 1600mhz ram at 1900mhz, could probably go higher but I don't want to sacrifice latency. Here in the UK prices of DDR3 are dropping and its much easier to buy faster RAM and save a bit of cash.

CPU: 5ghz

RAM: 1.9ghz

HT & NB: 2.65ghz

PCIe: 115mhz

GPU: 1.5ghz (VRAM: 7.6ghz)

Intel are great for simply plugging in and going, but with an FX you need to do a bit of overclocking and manual set up. We've all been laughing at this nob head in the FX owners club...

If you have a x99 platform, a 980ti but didn't invest on high ram speed- then your build doesn't make sense. 2800 DDR4 16GB is only $150.

I play Fallout 4 for an hour, and i didn't notice any major FPS drop at all. It steady between 50 - 60, and plus i'm on ultra settings. Also, did you guys download and install the latest NVIDIA driver yet?

Just in case you are wondering whether or not DigitalFoundry/Eurogamer's results are accurate regarding Memory Frequency and how it affects performance in FO4, TechSpot concluded the same exact thing:

16b0dgy.jpg

They saw a 67% increase in performance with a 4770k, going from 1333MHz to 2400MHz memory.

They also saw going from 1333MHz to 2400MHz memory frequency on an i3-4360 showed a 58% increase in performance.

http://www.techspot.com/review/1089-fallout-4-benchmarks/page6.html

Keep note that this seems to have a more profound effect on Intel hardware.

Another thing to keep in mind, this engine really responds to the clockspeed of your CPU. Meaning, if you have an unlocked processor and you haven't overclocked yet, it is in your best interest to overclock it if you plan on playing this game. You can gain a 10.5% FPS boost going from 3.5GHz to 4.5GHz.

9kw9zp.jpg

Couple that with a decent GPU overclock (and memory overclock), and you can really improve the overall performance of the game.

a Core i5 4690K paired with a Titan X running at 1080p - in short, a scenario designed to remove the GPU as a bottleneck and stress the CPU. We then re-ran the test with faster memory. Below you'll find our lowest and average frame-rate results from three different configurations:

1600MHz: 36.0/54.6
2133MHz: 39.0/61.0
2400MHz: 44.0/66.9

Then it's not frequency of RAM, because my 3570K (4.8Ghz right now) with a 290X (1100 mhz/ 1500 mhz) ranges from 42 to 75 FPS at 1200p and I have 1600Mhz CL8 RAM.

It has more to do with the cleanliness of the system, I bet. My system is always fresh like morning dew.

In case the moderators do not ban me as requested, this is a notice that I have left and am not coming back.

Possibly. Maybe even on you system you'd get an increase, who knows. Also what settings are you running?

If you have trouble maintaining 60fps and your gpu isn't being maxed out, I have found it's not a cpu bottleneck but an engine problem where if you set the shadow draw distance setting passed medium you can take insane performance hits in cities for no apparent reason. Even since I lowered that one setting I don't think I have ever fallen below 60fps.

Pretty much all ultra, apart from the things that don't provide visual benefit. TAA for example looks worse than FXAA (does it even work?)

Also windowed borderless mode seems to carry an FPS benefit.

They said they ran it at 1080p, but not what settings. I suppose they might've maxed everything there is. I suppose that would explain their FPS.

Anisotropic only at x8??

I'd pop a nut  , someone has to have some fast ram and a AMD GPU out there. I trust Digital Foundry though. If I can get my hands on some I'm doing it.

5820k, 2400mhz ram, 2x Fury X (but the second one doesn't matter due to frame cap in game). most of the time at 60, then random shit causes 30 fps dives, but that's Bethesda's shitty programming not the Fury X.

Single channel DDR3-1600 (what I use) is 18GB/s transfer speed, why would a game need more than that???

LOL. Quad channel DDR3-1600 For the win! 51.2Gb/s
