Planning to make a "Future Proof" upgrade-able PC aka Project RedFox

You can't really Future Proof

Yes I fully know this and what I mean by it is I can easily upgrade it for a good 2 or 3 years without switching parts hence the name Project RedFox "KryptonicFox is my gaming name and it's red"

1. Budget & Location
The budget is $3150 (If is something I 100% need to do and it's over budget I will), I live in New Zealand

2. Aim
The aim of this is to be quiet, look good and perform well, I plan to use to this to video edit and soon enough I hope to edit 4k videos as well as Photoshop and other productive things as well as running games, Here's my list of games I want to max out

Fallout 4

The Witcher 3

Metal Gear Solid V

Black Ops 3

Far Cry 4

Assassin's Creed Unity

Grand Theft Auto V

The Crew

Dark Souls II

Shadow of Mordor

Dying Light

Minecraft

You get the idea.

3. Monitors
I plan to have one 27" 1080p monitor which is to be planned to be upgraded to triple screens, I'm thinking about getting a Ultrawide but I don't know.

4. Peripherals
Yes, I need a Mouse, Keyboard, Monitor and Windows 10.

5. Why are you upgrading?
I had a $400 laptop which broke so now I'm using my mum's desktop which is no better really.

6. Planned Upgrades

Feel free to add to this list, It's in order of 1st Upgrade to last

Watercooling

1TB SSD

GTX 970 for Sli

2nd and 3rd Monitor

24GB Ram

7. System so far

If "future proof" is your goal the only component your should heavily invest in is the CPU!!  Grab a 5820k or a 5830k if you can swing it, with 16GB DDR4 Max (can always add more)...

CPU's stay relevant for years compared to GPU! My go to reference is the 2600K vs GTX 590.

-Both came out in 2011

-CPU original cost ~300 USD and is still relevant and can handle a beast GPU

-GPU original cost ~800 USD and is worst then a R9-270

Invest in a Platform X99 or at least a 6700K...   After that get a "good" card today and a "good" card tomorrow

A 970 or 390 will be more then enough for 1080 untill you you get a 1440/4k and then you can look into SLI or upgrade

Computer: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/ZczbWZ ~$950

Computer w/ Peripherals: http://pcpartpicker.com/b/mZNNnQ ~$1650

Case: Blue s340 painted black CPU: 4790K OC to 4.5MHz Cooler: Dark Rock 3 GPU: Powercolor R9-290 MOBO: z97 MSI Gaming 5 RAM: Fury HyperX 2x8GB 1866Mhz PSU: Corsair rm750x Storage: 250GB 850 EVO & 1TB WD Black HeadPhones: HD598 SE Speakers: MAckie CR4 SE Keyboard: K70 Cherry-Brown Mouse: G9x Fans: Prolimatech Vortex 140mm

Well what I'm thinking right now is to ditch the Monitor, Keyboard and Mouse for now and use my shit wireless mouse and keyboard as well as my 42" tv and then buy those later and get a 980ti and 5820k for now for a extra $150ish over my budget

dont get a 980ti ~650 USD unless you have a 1440 or 4k monitor....   for 280 USD you could get a 970 or 390, and probably be fine going to 1440...  800USD GPU's are pure splurge, and are for those who upgrade every year and dont mind lossing hundreds of dollars as long as they have the biggest/best.   If thats you then go for it, but if you want to make your dollar count get the best CPU can and aim for price for performance on the GPU in this case 6700k/5820k/5830k/ and 970/390

If I do get a 980 ti I plan to use a 1080p TV until a good drop in 4k monitors and then upgrading to 4k
