gtx 970 or r9 390?

Sir_Chicken
Go to solution Solved by i_build_nanosuits,

This is what you loose if you go with the R9 390:

This is what you gain in exchange, up to you to make the right choice for yourself ;)

proven fact though the GTX 970 overclock a hell of a lot better and within 2 minutes of tweaking in afterburner will shrink this 4% advantage.

the higher-end card from nvidia is always more expensive, but it always perform better...that's why they have the 980ti now.

Performance, good features, good performance per watt, being the fastest out there all the time unfortunately come at a cost, like everything in life son ;)

Boy oh boy, the 780 Ti owners sure got fucked over pretty hard now didn't they?

no, the 980ti is a more powerful and better performing GPU in most games.

Don't go changing your words kid, this is what you said:

no, i own one so i know...the GTX 780 has competed with the R9 290 in many titles, but fell short in many others as well..it has never competed with the R9 290X...this was 780ti's job and it has always slaughtered it in every games and it still does today.

ok enough now, i feel we could trow graphs at each other all day long but we have better things to do, and deep inside we BOTH know that nvidia is MUCH better than AMD who's rebranding the hawai boards that came out in 2013 and keep making it more beefy and power ungry gen after gen ;)

True - I could literally send you dozens of benches showing AMD's performance being superior in compute tasks.

As for rebranding - Nvidia has been doing it for far longer. And in this case, why fix something that ain't broke? 390 is outperforming the 970 even though the core came out in 2013 and 970 in 2014. Age isn't the deciding factor. As for 390X, it's slower than a 980 but it's also 100$ cheaper.

FYI - AMD at least cater to people who don't have a lot to spend by not insulting them with laptop-grade GPUs like the 960.

haha...wow, can't you find reputable sources for your benchmarking results like most people do?

what about anandtech or tom's hardware or something? no you don't do that because those show the numbers you don't like...the ones which represent the reality ;)

Your benchmarking numbers are completely out of this world...the GTX 970 performing noticeably better than a 780ti...ANYBODY with common sense KNOW that the 780ti is a more powerful GPU than the 970...by A LOT,.,,the 780ti is in fact pretty close to the GTX 980 in terms of it's performance son.

A R9 290 defeating a 780ti...and now what?! hahahahahah

nvidia is MORE expensive there is no denying that...it,s more expensive because it's BETTER :)

Look me in the eye and tell me a 960 is superior to a 380. Try it. I'd love to see you explain how a card  that falls behind by 10-20fps in any bench is superior....

no denying that, nvidia is MORE EXPENSIVE. im out btw, got stuff to do now.

nvidia is missing a 960ti in the line up right now...that's why...and when this card launch it will be faster than a 380...but it WILL COST MORE...that's a GIVEN.

Also - explain how 3-4 fps for 100$ more and 4GB VRAM less is worth it (980 vs 390X) - please do.

look at the post that has been selected has the answer to this thread...FEATURES and PERF PER WATT...and better driver support.

You only look at pure peak performance and benchmarking results...but for MANY people this is not the ONLY stats that really matters you know?

also my previous post has been edited to answer the 960 vs 380 situation, here :

''nvidia is missing a 960ti in the line up right now...that's why...and when this card launch it will be faster than a 380...but it WILL COST MORE...that's a GIVEN.''

performance per watt is true - but the crown there belongs to the Nano :)

As for features - the only things that come to mind are Advanced PhysX, Brokenworks (64x Tess is bullshit, no way to excuse it given that 16x looks exactly the same but actually works on AMD's hardware as well) and Game Stream.

Driver support is the fun part - so far, for every thread regarding AMD's drivers I've seen 3 for Nvidia's drivers. That's how it's been for 3 months now.

Yea yea, shoo shoo. Even the most trustworthy becomes a lie. Go and search the other benchmarks yourself. I don't have to spoon feed you everything. Oh ever wondered why peeps were buying the 970? Cause it had the same/better performance for a lower price.

Tell you what, only a studio who knows how to optimize games will let the 780 Ti shine in its full glory
