What's a Good CPU for Chess Engine Game Analysis?

Well both of these are cheaper on Newegg.

The 5820K is a hexcore... I think @Dark_wizzie was referring to it.  The 5820 is a better performer than the FX 8XXX, but not better for your wallet.

Basically that.

I'm just repeating my first post at this point though. All the data I checked is on there.

@BigBig5

i5<FX6300<FX8XXX<5820K<5960X

Start at the bold one.  It will outperform the i5 (slightly) and is cheapest.  If you want to spend more, move forward on the list.

Yeah, checked the FX6300, looks like a very good starting point, especially if the 8350 is too expensive for you.

What about the FX 8320?

Thanks and I was thinking of that too. If any overclocking it would be very little like 4.2. Plus he will be getting a be quiet! PURE ROCK CPU Cooler 150W TDP

Yes he will use a old ATI Radeon HD 4550 or my old HD 7790. The 7790 might be a little overkill but I think supports better video playback.

4.2GHz should be easy... my old FX 8320 went from 3.5GHz to 4.4GHz on stock voltage....
