R9 390x worth it?

Matt_Twinkletoes

So I'm getting the R9 390 soon and I was wondering is it worth it to pay the extra cash (US Dollars) for the R9 390X for 1080p gaming?

If so

Still get MSI version?

Around same power usage as 390?

If 10% more performance is worth 20-25% more in price to you, then get it.

can 390 be unlocked? (bios flash)

if so, unlock IF YOU DARE TO (find a 390 with dual bios)

OR get the PowerColour R9 390/290 and unlock it (I heard that PowerColour and TUL Brands are unlockable)

NEED X58 BOARD WITH SATA3 ASAP

if you like R9 Series, go for R9 390 instead. 390X is shitty card- it heats up really quick and power consumption rate is almost identical to R9 295x2.

Its only a bit more powerful than the vanilla 390. For 390X especially ASUS Direct CUIII fulload reaches 90+ degree Celsius and the card is untouchable

If you can afford it go for it - it's a solid card that manages to perform the same as a 980 @ 1440p and even beat it at 4K.

Neither the 390 nor the 390X will be too hot - 390 runs at 71-74*C and 390X runs around 75-77*C under max load >.>

MSI cooler is more than capable of keeping those cards cool - if you ever break 80*C I will personally come to your place and buy you a beer cause that's almost impossible to do with stock settings. As for power - 390X uses 330W, 390 uses 290W average. 295X2 uses 600W >.<

Lol, almost identical to a 295x2?

Anyway, I think if you can find 390x that is close in price to premium 970s. That's not bad.

The only difference is the number of processing units. The translation isn't much, but depends on the game/task.

If your gaming at 1440p or higher resolutions and you need the extra vRAM then yes. Also Sapphire and XFX are the brands you should look at.

R9 390 wouldnt be too hot, its more efficient.

I had an ASUS 390x under its peak load, the temp goes up to 93++ degree ceicius, the MSI 390x isnt much better. For both of this, you cant touch the card after the full load test, its freaking hot.

Trust me you will regret getting a 390x, its the most stupid graphic card i had ever used, of course its powerful, it can play games in 4k without problem.. But the power consumption and heat output while gaming is unbearable...

Asus are the worst AMD cards xD - as for heat , it usually takes 5-6 min to dissipate most of it. You cannot touch any card directly after a Kombuster burn test.

benchmarks show the MSI card is actually quite better than the Strix 390x for thermals...
