ASUS Z170A vs Z170AR

Go to solution Solved by colinreay,

Z170a and Z170ar are identical, but the Z170a includes a DVI adn VGA port (Don't need one if you have a discreet gpu, get the cheaper version.)

What is different between the two of them? They seem the same except for the onboard display outputs. The Z170 Deluxe would be my choice, but it's too expensive.

I don't think the Z170-AR exists, it's not even listed on the ASUS website.. There was a Z97-AR where the only difference to the Z97-A was the color scheme.

Could be an error on the PC part picker site.

If the price of a z170 option is a concern, then you shouldn't be buying z170 in the first place. z97 is literally over 100-180 dollars cheaper for less than 5% worse preformance, and x99 is literally the exact same cost in the US (cheaper if you are near a microcenter) while being way better.

i dont know what magical prices you have there in USA but in Europe, a X99 motherboard costs way more than Z170

1. Consider the lowest end x99 mobo has a feature set comparable to a high end z170 board (x99 sli plus vs a z170 gaming 7 is a good comparison at 219 vs 230 dollars).

2. The biggest thing in the US is the 5820k is available to well over 3/4 of the population for 299.99 USD while the 6700k bottoms out at 349.99. More than enough difference to cancel out any mobo difference (which there isn't any if you grab comparable FEATURED mobo)
