GTA 5 is the only one i know of that maxes out 4G VRAM. at 1080p.

We can't Benchmark like we used to, but we have our ways. One trick is to shove more GPUs in your computer. Like the time I needed to NV-Link, because I needed a higher HeavenBench score, so I did an SLI, which is what they called NV-Link back in the day. So, I decided to put two GPUs in my computer, which was the style at the time. Now, to add another GPU to your computer, costs a new PSU. Now in those days PSUs said OCZ on them, "Gimme 750W OCZs for an SLI" you'd say. Now where were we? Oh yeah, the important thing was that I had two GPUs in my rig, which was the style at the time! They didn't have RGB PSUs at the time, because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big green ones.

Are there any games today which consumes more than 4gigs of vram at 1080p ultra settings? What about 1 or 2 years down the line?

BF4 at 1080p ultra uses 2050MB on my gtx 970, so for 4k you should be fine with 3-4GB, ofc you will need more in the future for ultra, but currently not

GTA V, Shadow of Mordor, Batman: Arkham Knight are one of the games that may demand more than 4 gigs of VRAM depending on the settings.

How about gta5 with all settings cranked up?

I am confused whether i should buy 970 or 390/x

buy a 970 if you like the cool features that Geforce gives you like shadow play and crap

buy a 390 or a 390x if you want more bang for your buck, more VRAM and more performance (not by a huge amount but a noticeable one 970 and a 390x is a big difference though)

Just buy the 390/x. Better price/performance. (also just performs better than 970 anyway.)

Also, everybody else has listed the games. Not that many use more. The 8gb VRAM on the 390&390X is a lot, but future games will use more VRAM at 1080p and you'll want that extra buffer, especially since it doesn't cost more.

EDIT- Oh yeah, if you want Shadowplay you gotta get an NVidia GPU. But, I wouldn't buy a lesser card for one feature that can be replaced imo :P

Only two things that concerns me about 390x is power consumption and driver support. Are my electricity bills gonna shoot up really high?

390X consumes only 60W more than a 980 but us only slightly slower than a 980 - any 550W PSU from a decent OEM is fine

Electricity bills don't get affected by GPUs that much - your heater uses from 1 000W to 3 000W

An average AC uses 1 500W. 60W is nothing :P

Drivers are fine. Have been for a long time. The horror stories are used to scare people nowadays but are no longer really applicable.

Forgot to mention - that is load power consumption. Idle is not the same, if not better thanks to AMD's Zero Core. Most PCs spend 75% of the time idling :)

Corsair vs650 enough for 390x? I am gonna pair it with i5 4590

Corsair VS are the lowest of the low quality PSUs - replace immediately. Not even a 960 is fine on that

Shadow of mordor and GTA 5. But those are exceptions. For 1080P it is recommended to have at least 2GB card for now.

Assuming you are going to buy a graphic card, if you are considering to keep GPU for another two years, buy R9 390 or GTX 970.
