Ok ok ok so I'm half way through watching the greatest show of all time (Avatar) again because I was young when it was aired live and didn't fully understand.

I'm wondering is the legend of korra worth it or will it ruin my childhood?

Kind of hard to compare the shows since they are different in a lot of things though if you enjoy TLA, you'll enjoy LoK just fine since it just continues the story even more.

i dont really know much about any kind of TV shows, but a friend of mine is REALLY into korra...

 

(she may or may not have made questionable "art" and all that :/)

I don't like either.

 

I am much for of a "Tokyo Ghoul" style guy.

 

I like my anime dark, gory, and really kinda insane.

 

Although I don't really have much time to watch.

2-4 is worth it.

TLA >LoK simply because of character development and plot development. LoT was actually pretty good story wise, but some things like the ending of Season 1 were too abrupt. And characters like Tenzin's son for example is just a worthless addition. Provides nothing to the show.

Shite? I really enjoyed the Korra series, and I think it really appeals more to teens. It is better IMO.

I say yes. It's kinda like a greater expansion. A badass female protagonist that challenges many things, it's also much more mature compared to Aang's story.  Such as lesbian relationships and what not.  Personally it's a great expansion to what was the legendary series Avatar

Dude honestly, both ATLA and LOK are freaking great shows. If you got really into ATLA then i highly recommend the Legend of Korra, since you get to see a really indepth look at the lore and what the characters from ATLA did with their lives. 
Plus Korra is a total baller, so you can watch her kick some ass. It will not ruin your childhood in the slightest. :)

TLA is much better than LoK, better story arc and much better character development. You might want to watch LoK though just to add it to the overall story/universe, it won't hurt.

with the last airbender being as strong as it is, doing a sequel is quite risky since it will be difficult to live up to the hype and expectation of the first.
that being said, korra is pretty good but personally its hard to outdo aang.
