Overclocking i7 4790K on asus z97 a

HeyGuys

 

Since it's starting to get colder here in Belgium I'm going to overclock my CPU and GPU again. 

 

So I wanted to check what voltages it's running on stock 4.4 turbo but it doesn't go to 4.44 on a benchmark...

 

I'm using aida64 and occt but none of them push the cpu up to it's max frequency..

 

Help?

It only boosts to 4.4 if 1-2 cores are under load I believe.

 

Manually changing "auto" multiplier to 44 should fix it but may require a tiny bump in voltage.

Yeah it's how intel's turbo boost crap works.   It's like 4.2 ghz for all 4, 4.3 for 3 and 4.4 for 1-2 cores being active or something like that.

Damn, "Today I learned" But when I manually OC to 4.8 I'll get them on all 4 under full load, correct? I was thinking about starting on 1.28 Vcore

Yeah whatever you set the multiplier to over-rides intel's turbo boost stuff and will boost all cores to that frequency under load.

 

Some motherboards may require an extra thing changed around where the multiplier is, it will say "per core" and "set to all cores", you'll want to set it to all cores if that's an option.

I would suggest OCing manually and settings the voltages and multiplier that way. Doing that will force all 4 cores to bump up to whatever you are OCed on.

So I set it to 4.7 now with 1.27 Vcore. On aida 64 the temps go up a little too high to my likings (bouncing between 90 and 65 for some odd reason) Is this stable or?

If it's going up to the 90's I'd say kick down the vcore a bit, you may have to settle for like 4.6 or something with a tad less voltage.

damn, those are some high temperatures.... i would bump down the voltage a little bit and see if you can still get 4.7ghz

Sadly yes. I thought my big ass dark orkc pro 3 would be able to cool it but I'll have to go liquid to get 4.8 :( 

 

Bumping down Vcore now on 4.7. 1.260 and it's still stable! huzzah

This was on 1.255 during aida64 test. For some reason that test pushes my temps incredibly high, because when I'm playing csgo temps are only 70...
