is it possible to use a quad channel kit on a dual channel mobo ? 

also , can anyone suggest a good company .(16 gb ram)

Yes,

Kingston or G.SKILL are good ram companies.

Makemsure the mobo has 4 dimm slots though and supports the ram speed.

yeah but you wont be able to use all the DIMMs (if you have 8 that is) because dual channels boards only have 4 slots (sometimes even less)

You can, but you'd derive no speed benefit. I suggest 2x8GB of Kingston, G. Skill, Corsair, or Crucial. Leave yourself the slots to increase capacity in the future.

"dual,triple, quad channel ram" don't exist, it's just marketing. install 1 stick it's single channel, install 2 sticks is dual channel, 3=triple,* and 4=quad**.

Quad channel kits are basically 4 sticks of ram with the same exact clock and timings so when playing with XMP you get better compatibility between all 4 sticks. Where some say that when you buy 2 sets of dual channel kits with the same exact clock and timings, it might have some issues getting XMP to work on all 4 sticks of ram.  But I've bought 2 sets do dual channel before (same clock and timings) and it has no problems with xmp.

I have heard mention of issues with Skylake systems trying to use XMP profiles with older DDR4 kits intended for X99. Not sure how much of a problem this actually is, though.

 

Our existing 4-up DDR4 kits should run on the new platform without issue; they may actually even run a little better for the overclockers in the house, since these processors run on a dual-channel memory controller instead of the quad-channel one found in the Core i7-5960X and related chips. That said, the XMP 2.0 profiles for those kits were designed for Haswell-E and may necessitate having timings entered into BIOS manually.

Both have the same exact clock speed and specified timings. With what your'e saying is, if I want a quad channel ram for my X99, then I must get the quad channel kit, because the dual channel kit will not work, even though both are exactly the same ram.

What I'm saying is that if you want your quad channel to definitely work, you'll buy the quad channel. The dual channel might work as part of a quad set, but it might not. There are lots of sub timings (that aren't published) that can vary even across the same SKU.
