Who wants to help!?!

FrizL

I just sold my pc that I built around 7 years ago and I'm in need to replace it. It had a Phenom II (3.4 Ghz, quad core), Gigabyte 333 mobo, 8GB of DDR3 1600 Mhz, and a Radeon 7770 GPU. I have an i5 3470 to build around. I know its not the best but it was free and there are plenty of upgrade options available with that socket. I have been beating my head on my desk going through all the different configs possible. Its to the point that I have no idea where to go with it. I've looked at mITX desktop builds, Full tower builds, and everything in between. There are lots of people on here that love spending and budgeting other peoples money so here's your chance  :) . Here are some things to keep in mind that I want/need out of the build:

1. Please use Amazon so I can take advantage of my Prime account.

2. I've been keeping the price at $350 USD for the time being (consider this a challenge)

3. I was hoping to get a GTX 960 or R9/R7 equivalent.

4. Hoping to get a modular PSU, not completely necessary however.

5. Case is totally up in the air. I'd just ask that if you build with ATX, try to stay at the midtower range, and we all like to see whats in it!

6. HDDs and SSD are already in hand so don't worry about storage.

i will be using this as a lighter end gaming rig (CS:GO, minecraft, etc.) and workstation. Enjoy and I can't wait for your help!

$350 wont get u a modular psu, considering the cheapest modular psu is like $100. u asking for way to much for way too little money.

I'm not saying its impossible in that price range, just impossible to do it with amazon since they usually only sell the more mainstream stuff.

Products in the form of motherboards appeared on the market in June 2007 based on Intel's P35 "Bearlake" chipset with DIMMs at bandwidths up to DDR3-1600 (PC3-12800). The Intel Core i7, released in November 2008, connects directly to memory rather than via a chipset.

Wow, wonder if DDR4 will last as long as that?

Honestly we still didn't have a ram bottleneck so the switch is currently unecesary in my view

imo you should've kept the RAM.

Do you already have a cooler?

I do not. I like the look of the Evo 212.

$370 build, also dont use amazon, use newegg or something. because amazon is a terrible place to buy computer hardware. terrible pricing and most parts arent even prime eligible

Assuming were talking about canadian amazon lol

I  have GameServer`s And VOIP servers the only price is that you have fun on them.

$350 of a budget is just too tight if you want a $200 graphics cards, you want ssds(or hd), ram, mobo and psu for $150? cant it be done, maybe with cheapo dubious quality or used parts, but I wouldn't go that route. Another $100 there could do wonders for you.

Now that being said you can also forgo the gpu for a cheaper option, if you do or increase budget post it and I'll suggest a build

I have 4TB worth of HDD and 240GB SSD. I'm willing to go a bit over if its worth it. Not $100 more though, just had twins 2 weeks ago and can't really justify coming out of pocket. I sold mine for $350 minus the video card. I still have the 7770 but we can agree its outdated and a little under powered.

Good stuff right there. Only thing is no heat sink and over $50 in rebates I'd have to pay. Might have to sell some bodily fluids and make it happen. Did anyone check Craigslist in KC area? I'm not against a challenge with Linus for Junkyard wars!

you can prolly sell your 7770 for 30-50 bucks depending on brand/condition  or you could cheap out a bit more and go with this.

i personally would go against getting anything major second hand, about the only thing i would probably buy used is a case
