Hey LinusTechTips Community, I am wanting to get in to PC gaming so bad, but I have no idea where to start.

Well I have some idea.

My plans on my ideal build where the following

CPU - AMD FX-6300

1TB WD Blue Drive

and thats it LOL...

I need a solid motherboard if possible can overclock, It does not need to have this feature but if possible that would be great.

Also, I don't know which is better... On-board wi-fi or a wi-fi adapter. If you can leave a suggestion or comment about this that would be great also.

for my GPU, I don't plan on maxing every game out at 1080p at 60fps, because this I plan on making a some-what medium/high budget build.

I want to have normal settings on all games with a solid 50-60 fps. If this is not possible please leave a decent GPU. I just want to play games, I don't care about the texture packs and scaling. As long as I can have a good time gaming, that is fine.

for my PSU , I don't know much about power supplies, but if it is possible please leave a good clean PSU.

For my budget... Yes this is the scariest part. My budget is 500$, 550 ( MAX )

Thank you so much for your time and effort to help a noob like me :)

why did you choose that CPU? is it because you're an AMD fan? or you just prefer lower performance...?

there are some advantages like he can run programs in the background without it affecting his gaming performance or if he does other thing that can use all the threads and dx12 might be something to consider

1) you can run programs in the background with an i5 too...

2) an i3 or i5 still perform better even in multithreaded performance than that CPU

3) dx12 has no advantage if you get an AMD CPU over intel CPU

i5 is not in the same price bracket and an i3 does not perform better in multi threaded also we have no idea what impact dx12 will have as of now

I wouldn't personally do anything less than this: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/XzWLmG

This ^^^^^^^^^^ i have a 750ti and i can tell you first hand its great with 1080p and if your able to spend a few bucks more, get a gtx960... intel and nVidia will beat amd all day. Im not a fanboy, ive had both, intel is just so much better

Jesus christ. I only chose the fx-6300 because it is cheaper than an i3. Yes intel is stronger per-core but I plan on doing rendering and livestreaming later on.

Yeah but you'll be doing rendering and livestreaming for how long, compared to the time you'll be putting into just gaming?

Nobody here (in this thread) legit hates AMD, it's just their CPU's right now are garbage for what you can get with Intel.

i disagree about the amd vs nvidia aside from the 980 ti amd beats nvidia at practically every price bracket

Smash them noobs with that PC! PC is all around great, and will destroy most games. Hope you consider my build!

Also you can get Windows 10 for cheap on Reddit :)

Dude no disrespect, but if I am going to go with an intel, I need a i5 at the least. i3's aren't as good as I want for that price range. I would rather go with the fx-6300 for its price and performance. Yes I know i3's are better than 6300's but I need a cheap build. If you could find an 6300 build i'd appreciate it.

Guys, I personally just want a solid gaming PC , But the only way I will go with intel is if its a dual core i5 MINIMUM If you can make a build with good specs with that cpu i'll take it.

But for now amd is my perfered cpu for its price

If you can afford the i5 get a 4460.

Even so, the i3 runs circles around the AMD so you're just wasting money.

The thing is if you go with an 6300 there is not upgrade path that's worth it, your stuck on a shitty platform with the best CPU being only slightly better but still worse than a i5. Go with the i3 now, I use one and it performs better than you'd think. Also if you go with the i3 you'll at least be able to upgrade to an i5-4460, i5-4690k or i7-4790k down the road.

all i5s are quad core and an i3 will be faster at gaming than a fx 6300 as it is better at single threaded applications but the fx 6300 will be faster at multi threaded applications so if you are running only games i would recommend i3 but if you are running software that uses multiple thread i recommend the fx so you choose what is important

yeah because you totally can;t fit an i5 in a $500 PC budget right? lol

you can get a used i5 for $20 or $30 more than the FX6300

here is the i3 beating the 6300 in far cry

fc3_1920.png

I highly doubt he will be doing video editing or 3d rendering with that PC anyway

and DX12 is being developed for GPU processing

if you think AMD CPUs will be better than intel CPUs because of something that affect the graphics card you probably need to do a bit more reaserch

Finally a person who is nice. Thanks for your reply. Do you have any motherboard suggestions that can fit a i5-4460? I could use a micro-atx mobo because my perfered case is the coolermaster n200... thanks again.
