Why does the i7 3770k cost more than the i7 4790k?

no... the 3770k had a 2x higher base clock speed on the gpu. Then the turbo puts the 4790k over it by 100MHz

Higher MHz/GHz = not always better.... That's like trying to say my FX 8120 at 4.7GHz is faster than my Xeon E3-1230 v3...

If you read correctly, I said all consumer processors

obviously skylake is the first time they changed their consumer CPUs to not come with coolers

Could someone please explain this to me? It's an older processor and doesn't run as well. 

yeah, it's because it's out of production and few that remains to be sold can be sell for higher price because they know that somebody somewhere has an existing socket 1155 motherboard and a core i3 of some sort and will be willing to pay big bucks to get it and keep using the same motherboard. that,s why.

 

it's also the same reason why a GTX780ti is worth like 550$ new...it's because someone somewhere will be willing to pay big bucks to get it for SLI.

The 3770k costs more because it's no longer being produced and demand rises for those that are still on the 1155 socket.  It's the same as to why DDR2 is more expensive than ddr3 and ddr4.

You cannot simply compare the (turbo) clock frequencies, and say the one with the higher frequency will perform better. An example is the i7-3770K versus the i7-5775C.

Both iGPU's operate at 1150 MHz (turbo)...but the i7-5775C is OVER DOUBLE the performance of the i7-3770K (and i7-4770K/4790K).
