there is life after college, if you decide to switch your life path..

sure it took me longer to achieve 7 figures, but that is your choice.

Curious...may I ask how difficult that was for you? Where I live people have a real tough time trying to get jobs with a GED without experience to back it.

The tests themselves were a joke. I passed them all with honors easily.

The hardest part of the tests was the paperwork involved to get signed-up. Dealing with government is always terrible. In Idaho, I (no joke) had to sign a paper, then sign the same paper again verifying that I had seen the signature of the group organizer.

The paperwork process from start to finish took about 6 weeks. I got testing done in 2 days. Then it took another week for the diploma to be mailed to me.

As for getting a Job, It can be tough. The important thing is to not let having a GED be a bad thing. It does not have to be.

Any good employer or job recruiter will know that having an education is not the same as having intelligence.

Thanks for the answer!

It is the same in Alabama and Kentucky from what I've read.

And true, I wish more people would recognize that. I've seen truly intelligent people with a GED lose a job position to someone with a high school diploma who couldn't even read because they got a "real education with experience".

Good for you man! I know too many people who just get pressured into College because "you have to" and end up regretting it.

It's basically a necessity today if you want a job that requires more than just certifications.

There's a handful of places that won't even take me into an entry level position because I haven't completed school yet, even though I could do the job just fine. They look at your credentials from my understanding, so unless you have another form of experience under your belt in certain job areas, you're SOL unless you know people.

Very true. My problem with so many people going to college is that many don't know what they want to do and end up wasting a ton of money.

I'm majoring in history and plan on going to Law School for Corporate Law. If I didn't know exactly what I wanted to do, I wouldn't have gone to college in the first place.

The same experience for me. Its the credentials they want, that's why people with GEDs struggle so much.

It sucks.

That was my problem when I got out of high school. I had no idea what I wanted to do, so every person in my family was trying to get me to do this and that. I'm like man, leave me alone and let me figure it out.

Ended up working at Walgreens and hating it. I did more work than I got paid for. So I said screw this, I'm going to school. Currently getting a "Computer Support Specialist Degree" (I hate that name) and learning programming from Microsoft Virtual Academy.

Congrats man! I wish you the best of luck in future ventures. I hated working at Stop and Shop during high school, I know what it's like to be a minimum wage worker.

as have been in the "hiring" position, all needs of position to be filled is up to the

position. depends on the person applying.

5 years experienced - experience does speak loudly, but if those experiences are

filled with shortcuts, mediocre finishing, or general slackness, then that applicant

may not be suitable and involve increased man-hours to retrain for proper needs

of position.

4 years school trained - depending on course accreditation/completion applicant

can know all the "on paper" knowledge and not be the fitting candidate for a position.

school trained/internship - prolly the most needed as has applied skills and adaptation

towards the career market. but still is scrutinized to the applied benefits towards the

position to be filled.

one thing i have found that spending money on an education is an investment that

should be calculated as any investment should be and if there is an alteration to that

path, what is the alternative? that should always be a secondary/tertiary goal plan.

Completed high school, never went to high education due to complications out of my control. Now I'm left in the dust compared to all my acquaintances and friends. Still learning things though!

Does the fact that I kinda dropped out of Computer Science count? Wasn't really a choice since a few of the professors were/are set on never letting me finish it

Finished BS in Information Technology 5 months ago. I wouldn't call it an achievement though since the stuff I learned there barely helped me. It's a State University but 3/4 of my batch mates (that graduated) can't even install an OS let alone build a computer so our educational system is really sad. Truth be told, I could've theoretically passed my college while on my first or second year of high school.

I am sad to confirm similar experience:

I got a grilling for challenging a teacher once. The reason? them claiming that CD-Roms remembered being used.

Yup, she said that CD-Roms, Read Only Memory was like a HDD.

Said person also said RAM, was like a HDD (and was not referring to a ram disk).

Said person, was a professor of computing. Scripting and Hardware.

I left not long after with a scathing letter on the quality of tuition, it wasn't well received.

Its not my fault I am grumpy, you try having a porcelain todger that's always hard!
