My 980ti seems to be a dud?

SuperCactus

I was extremely excited today to get my g1 gaming from newegg; I sold my windforce 780 ti for $300... and

The card I got sort-of works, sort-of doesn't. For one, I noticed it didn't do much better than the 780 ti, and also noticed it did worse than my 780 ti in a lot of areas. So I benchmarked it, and here's what I got:

Am I missing something? I have the latest drivers. Thinking of reinstalling them.

Open up afterburner and run this test again. Come back with screenshots of the afterburner charts.

My guess is either thermal throttle or it's stuck below max clock

Lol the 980ti isn't supposed to be much stronger than the 780ti. The 980ti would be a 10-20 fps stronger in some games at most. If you oc the 780ti it would still be 1-5 fps lower than it. I have 780ti in sli and I was gonna go 980ti sli, but it was barely an improvement so it wasn't worth it

As previously stated there isn't going to be that much of a performance increase between the 780ti and 980ti,

EDIT: Apparently the 780ti isn't a rebrand, so I stand corrected.

Is your case airflow just horrible so that the card is always throttling or something at that 83C temperature target?

I'm trying to fiddle with drivers as much as I can. The card never goes above 50C, it's overclocked, functions normally

I'm guessing I might have to return the card to newegg. It actually came with an LED problem; I can't get the LED to show a perfect white or orange. I can deal with not having orange or white LED, but this performance is really crappy.

That GPU should never be running that cool while gaming, especially overclocked, unless you have it under water. Maybe you screwed something up in the BIOS or you have the card in a PCIE-3.0x4 slot. Is it in the top PCIE slot of your board? If so, reset the CMOS on your board and see if it's some setting that got screwed up in BIOS. And set your card to run at the factory clocks until you get this figured out.

Pretty much what others have said. It's going to be better but not worlds better than the 780 Ti at some things.

It's true the 980 ti isn't a world better, but it is 20-30% better

I finally figured it out: my CPU.

My CPU overclocked to 5.2Ghz somehow was holding it back big time.

I think it's because I allowed the maximum amps per core to go as high as it wanted, and fiddle with Vcore ring to get it to 5.2ghz. Anyway, when I restored the CPU to stock 4.4ghz turbo, the benchmarks were much higher than the 980. Plus, when I overclocked it back to 4.8ghz without fooling around with the other voltages, the benchmarks had a solid 25% improvement over the 980.

Yeah..... the same as saying........ ZERO difference between the 980Ti and the 970 cos 970 = 780Ti (mostly across the board)

Ridiculous.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

I have a 780ti thats overclocked pretty far, and its not in the same league as a 980ti. my card is slightly faster than an overclocked 780/ 970, and 2 of those cards equals a 980ti...

are you on drugs... the 780ti and 980ti are 2 separate cards, on 2 different chipsets...

the 980ti wipes the floor with a 780ti.. its a minimum of 30% faster across the board.

A single 980Ti is pretty close to 780Ti SLI.  How could you claim that single cards are within a few FPS of each other.

sli 780ti's are only a fraction faster than a single 980ti....

seriously were half the idiots on this thread dropped on their head recently.. apparently a 980ti is a 780ti rebrand... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA... best joke ever

and next an overclocked 780ti performs 1-5fps lower then an 980ti.... yeah.. second best joke ever..

sli 780tis are only a fraction better than a single 980ti, you're talking 10-15% better.. in games that are well optimised for SLI.. key point there "WELL OPTIMISED"
