  • 1 year later...

Well, yeah, this is totally true in so many levels in the middle school-high school area.

I'm 14 and I run a local PC building 'company' with my friend, and it works really well. So many times I get the weird looks when I say: "Yeah, I build computers". directly after they ask how old I am, and I reply with 14 (even though I could go for 16 easy, Im really tall and stuff lol)

The good part is that at my school they're pretty good about students working on the computers...we have a team of a few students who keeps things running, but I always end up being the one who does most of the work since we get tired of the petty stuff. Why isn't my wifi working? Turn it the fuck on

xD

My PC business isn't messing around with small budget things either. Im working on a build right now (parts are just coming in, HYPE!!) that's 2k with monitors, keyboard, mouse, and PC. Baller

I get mishandled in the computer world so much because of age, and it blows

I look across my room and see an old powerPC on my work table that im building a hackintosh in (the chassis), and when I tell people that, they're like: WHOA xD

Most of the teachers in our school know me (and others, Dylaan, Nick, Elliot, Zeb, etc) as the guys who can fix anything (yes we did a project to reconstruct our school's network and other things like that) and they're fine with us doing something as simple as replacing the ink in a printer or the paper or emptying the waste ink container on a printer, but then there are the ed tech's. Not to hate on them, because their job is incredible, what they do every day, but they come and go often, and don't get to know 'the team' so we often get 'in trouble' for quickly grabbing the server key from the staff room or opening the printer to fix a jam or replace ink, etc.

It sucks

Sorry for my angry rant, but I hope someone'll laugh or at least crack a smile :)

Cheers!

Everyone has "omg HACKER!" in their mind here when they see a command prompt / terminal open. It's ridiculous.

I was editing html for a school project (don't ask) a guy walks up "YOUR HACKING!!!!!!"

i agree with this article as im a 15 year old i have  been into pc hardware for over a year getting familiar to all the new hardware coming out then i built my first gaming rig and it runs great and im really wanting to get into coding and really geting into everything computer related. but the thing that i hear al the time from people in my school who own a laptop and think they are the master of computers cause they have a laptop, is that every time they get into convorsations about a game or something they automatically go to " well i have 8gb of ram or i have 16gb of ram so that means i can run anything at max settings and get amazing performance !" and thats when i literally face palm and walk away, too many people dont know how computers work and think that omg 16gb of ram with a pentium oh ya i can run crysis 3 at 4k cause i have 16gb of ram it doesnt matter about anything else -_-  well thats the end of my rant. either way if you were to give me a pc and say here reinstall windows or udgrade your ram/hdd/gpu/cpu etc. i could do it and i can honestly say that there arent many people i know that are in my school that can do this. i try to teach my friends stuff and they are getting better but people really need to learn about computers. and dam that was a long ass run on sentence :/ well i guess the pooint is that im glad to have found linus tech tips yt channel a year or two ago cause thats what started me with tech and pc`s and thats what lead me to building my pc and learning everything i know toady ( with help from other yt chanels and forums).  :)

Most of the stuff talked about in this thread is not applicable when it comes to everyday life. Also for what they dont they dont need to know about it. That is also why places like computer stores and GeekSquad exist. The only real thing they need to know is kinda the do's and dont's of using a PC and how not to get virus's. Also that places like Microsoft will never call you. Also dont just call any number because it shows up on your screen telling you to call them.

I think many of you just dont have a broad enough view due to age and lack of experience in life. There are a number of other things that could be said the same about you not know how to do certain things that many would consider "basic" or "commonplace".
