Am I Asking Too Much?

Go to solution Solved by MEC-777,

Alright, so I revised the ad as per advice received here. Thanks again guys. :)

Trying to sell my Frankenputer gaming PC as I already have too many PCs and need to free up space (and could use the coin ;) ).

Here's the ad. Let me know if you think I'm asking too much. Keep in mind, this is CAD and it's "or best offer".

It's been up for over a week now and only had one offer made so far for $400. I told him $450, but he hasn't responded in 4 days now.

Thanks.

yes

Edit, Fantastic case though.

Indeed, it is. It comes with a 500w PSU included, but I gave that to a friend to use in a cheap server he was building. lol I wouldn't touch that PSU with a 10 foot pole.

Yes the GPU it self cost 225USD on newegg

While that GPU in this machine really is "like new" (seriously, it's immaculate and runs perfect), I didn't pay anywhere near retail for it. ;)

As for everyone; thanks all, for your input. After giving it more thought, I have to agree, I'm asking too much. I messaged the person who made the offer for $400 and told them they can have it. Hopefully they're still interested.

Thanks again, folks. Appreciate it. :)

Stop down-playing it.

"A few years old."

"Decent gaming PC."

In my point of view, your job is to list the parts and an asking price.  Let shoppers ask you questions or do their own research if they feel research is necessary.

The way a lot of that is written makes a viewer think it's of questionable value. Don't imply value. Value is subjective and what you consider a good deal might be better or worse for some one else.  Let them make their own decisions.

From personal experience selling various things in the past, I've always found it better to be completely honest in my ads. I find people tend to appreciate that and thus trust buying from me a little more vs someone else who "just lists the specs" which can be misleading. It eases their mind when they know more exactly what they're buying/getting.

Problem here is if I'm asking too much to begin with then nobody will care about the rest anyways. ;)

I used to make a living in a motorcycle junk yard, that experience taught me something very important. If you want to get the most money back out of something used, break it up into it's separate parts. Sell the parts individually and you might even make more that you're looking for the complete set-up. That take more time, and your time isn't free. So there is a trade off.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

(Read my edit on my first post).

Listing specs is not misleading.  It's what every store does and every product manufacturer does.  If you think it's misleading, then you (and I, and every one else) have been mislead with everything we've ever purchased.  That's just not the case.

Example: NewEgg doesn't give their opinions of EVGA's products, not even in their videos. They make it a point to only give overviews and not "reviews."

Thanks.

When i try to sell old hardware, i always ask one simple question. What can someone else build with the price i am asking? In your case of $580CAD, one could do something like this.

Motherboard: ASRock H81M-DGS R2.0 Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  ($49.50 @ Vuugo)
Memory: Patriot Signature 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory  ($50.99 @ DirectCanada)
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 500GB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive  ($54.98 @ DirectCanada)
Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 950 2GB Video Card  ($209.99 @ NCIX)
Case: Apex SK-393-C ATX Mid Tower Case  ($33.49 @ DirectCanada)
Total: $588.44
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

Not the prettiest build, or the fanciest. However, it's performance is on par with your build, and even surpasses it in some areas. I think the $400 offer is a solid one, and if you can sell it for that price, you should be satisfied with it. Hardware prices drop fast due to faster, cheaper hardware coming out almost every year.

Good luck with your deal.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I have to disagree when it comes to PCs. For what you can get individual components for used these days is worth less than those parts assembled and working. Especially with windows installed. :P

If it's already built and working, some people put value on that convenience. Otherwise, they'd be looking for the individual parts themselves. ;)

I get what you're saying. But what I mean by misleading is; someone may look at the specs and think "I don't recognize that CPU" then look it up and see how old it is, which would turn them off - even though it's actually still a pretty good CPU. So in my wording of the ad, I try to give more details to inform the buyer of what it is they're actually getting.
