can you guys please explain to my in-denial AMD fanboy friend is in the wrong.,....

 

he says the 980 only gets 3 more FPS than the 290x. which is wrong...... the 290x doesnt touch the 980 in performance am i correct?

The 290X is close to the 980 - in some games and some resolutions it matches it.

i go for whatever has the best performance. and that is unargueably Nvidia at this time

AMD beats or matches anything Nvidia has except for the 980ti.

Give up on him. If he's turning down facts then you aren't going to get anywhere.

 

Alternatively, you could ask him to prove his side side of the argument. Though that being said, there are likely (very specific) scenarios in which the 290x will perform just as well as a 980.

Your friend is not entirely incorrect though, an overclocked 290x is on par if not slightly better than a stock ref 980.
