390 crossfire or 980 sli for 4k

Zackfoo
Go to solution Solved by DarkBlade2117,

nope. someone took my asus strix edition 390 with a good price. That card is one of the worst card among 390 tho and expensive. The price he gave me enough to get another new 390 and also a good lunch.

So i have the option now to go for only 1 card for the moment. a new 390x, new 390 or a used 980. This is tricky as hell...

Get a 390x, see how it performs at 4k ( won't be very good ) but if you can live with playing lower end games for a bit get a 390x then crossfire it. Sapphire, or MSI both make good ones. The 8GBs of VRAM with the 390x will benefit you over the 980

This time the price should be considered too. 390 is significantly lower in price compare to 2 980 but is the difference at 4k gaming gonna show a lot? The difference worth the performance gain or not?

I think the best thing you can do is get a Fury X or a 980ti, single more powerful card is always better than 2 weaker card.

Lol not for 4k.

390x Crossfire would be the best thing. 4GBs of VRAM isn't enough for 4k to me.

Yea go for the fastest single card! only go sli or crossfire if you still need more power than the highest end one.

I would say get the 390 because it'll give you a good amount of vram and they'll both help each other out with processing power.

Once again no single card can smoothly run AAA games at 60+ FPS at decent settings at 4k.

Not always, in the titles that have a good Xfire provile, R9 390Xs in Xfire would be more powerful than a single GTX 980 Ti (especially at 4K).

For the titles that aren't so well optimised (or just don't have a very good Xfire profile), then a single GTX 980 Ti would obviously be better.

With the release of DX12 potentially improving the performance of multi-card setups, a Xfire or SLI setup might be more appealing (not saying it will, it might).

However, there are other issues with Xfire/SLI (increased power consumption, legacy title support, etc etc) that have to be considered as well.

But 390 should be just fine too?

So it has to be 390x instead of 390 ya.....

Doesn't have to. If you've already got a 390 just get another one. If you for say had like a 380 I'd say yeah get a 390x but just overclock your 390 a bit and youll be good.

The 980 is still quite a bit better than a 390x so 980 sli over 390x cf anyday of the week and the amount you will save on your electricity bill will be quite a lot.

but the price of 1 980 is rm600 more than a 390x. 2 means rm1200. Around 350usd like that.
