You heard problems with overclocking G1 cards... I'd like to see the crackpots you listen to, because G1 cards OC pretty damn good most of the time.

I feel like the reference option would be a bit wasteful for money.  I don't know how much more it is in total, but when we're talking 980 Ti SLI, is overclock really going to do much for you or is it a measuring contest?

G1 Gaming is the best mid range aftermarket overclocking.

I see no reason why you should sell your G1?

Well, if you already have the card, I wouldn't sell it. It will cost you more in the end for not a huge difference. If you don't mind having mis-matched cards, you could get a reference model and put it in the lower slot for SLI.

If you do sell it, two reference cards are the best option to go for, as they keep the heat out of the case more and don't heat eachother up.

EDIT: Also, as others have said, the G1 is a good overclocker. Where did you hear it wasn't?

i'm thinking of getting sli 980 ti and i wanna go for reference but some custom cards are great i wanna know what is the best for sli.

Reference or Non reference " custom " ?

Non reference is generally always better due to better cooling. Gigabyte are a solid choice.

I don't like 2D games...I just couldn't get into them.. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

I would go with Non-reference for better overclocks, temperatures and noise levels and higher clock speeds

I'd go with non reference personally.

The reference 980 TI already get pretty spicy, putting 2 next to eachother is a recipe for extremely high temps.

Also depends on your motherboard spacing though. What mobo do you have?

In general, reference cards help keep the case and the other card (mainly top card) cooler in SLI configurations. If your case doesn't have a huge amount of room, then definitely go for reference coolers. If there's loads of room and you can get good, unrestricted air flow to the cards, then non-reference can work fine too, though they will still heat up the inside of the case more, due to their open design.

Yeah non reference cards will be better then, since you have proper spacing for 2 cards.

Check out the SOC Champion from Gigabyte, it has most of the same features as the rampage v extreme and costs a lot less.
