Hi, I'm kind of new at all this but I have some questions that I really need your help with.

So, first of all can anyone tell me what "sandy bridge" is? is it in any way related to the lga 1155 socket?

Would you say that the 1155 socket is outdated?

And last of all I would love to know what is, in your opinion, the best cpu with the best overall performance, that is compatible with the lga 1155 socket.

Best CPU for gaming, Intel Core i5-2500K/3570K though with cooling look into Sandy Bridge, they're soldered instead of shite thermal material.

not outdated yet, actually a very relevant platform today.

as stated above, a 3770K would be awesome.

as for 'sandy bridge', it's basically just the name for the processor architecture of the Pentium G620T all the way to the I7 3960, and everything in between those two.

just like the newest CPU's are called 'skylake'

Sandy Bridge is the CPU architecture used at the end of Socket LGA 1155's lifespan. Socket LGA 1155 is now two sockets old, and only launched three years ago, in Q2 of 2012. The CPU's still perform great today however for the latest features, like M.2 support, NVME support and others you'd want to step up to a more recent platform like LGA 1150, or LGA 1151.

Best CPU for LGA 1155 is 3570K, which is Ivy Bridge, Sandy Bridge is also the same socket but one generation older. Best Sandy Bridge CPU is 2600K

I have an enthusiast sandy bridge and I love it. Its not 1155 though. I did own a non k 2500 before it though and it worked great.

I have a 2600K in my desktop and it's a monster. Not the best 1155 CPU though, that goes to the 3770K. the 2600K is juuuuuuust behind it though, With Ivy Bridge the biggest benefit is the transition from PCIe 2.0 to 3.0. means that you can run a 750-series SSD at full speed.

My rig has a 2500k in it and I love it, got her to 4.9GHz with just a Hyper 212 EVO, however if you want the absolute fastest in that socket you will probably want the 2600k or 3770k with the 3770k being slightly faster. I don't actually know if the 2600k wins when you overclock them however since Sandy Bridge has the much better solder over the 3770k's TIM, does anyone know if Sandy Bridge can be faster due to better cooling?
