Isn't PowerPC a shitty prebuild company? That dude doesn't know what he is talking about...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PowerPC

You must be thinking of PowerSpec, lol. I worked at the store that sold those machines, its sad to see them go...

TL;DR: PowerPC is an architecture, just like x86 or ARM, but IBM is really the only one that uses and produces it. Its used in servers mostly, however Apple used it before moving over to Intel, and both of the last generation consoles used it(Xbox 360 and PS3). Its not really inferior to x86, just different.

I wasn't even trying to talk about PC vs Console, I just said that if AMD stopped delivering chips to Sony/Microsoft more people would get a PC therefor more graphics card/CPU's/APU's would be sold.

Maybe AMD could focus on mobile market, Nvidia Shield Tablet is still one of the best tablets out there and at 299$ quite cheap

I'm sure they have signed something so they have to keep providing and Microsoft/sony have to keep buying. Even if they could, why? It's not like they're going to stop making Xbox's because AMD stopped supplying chips. I'm sure Nvidia wouldn't mind too much. Or Intel, even. But let's say no more consoles are made and everyone who would buy one decides to build a PC instead. 75% (80 now, was it?) of those would go towards Nvidia. So they have to make 4-5x as much per chip as they do on each one that goes into the xbox, and not everyone is going to buy the expensive chips.

Do you want an AMD tablet? Or do you mean mobile chips? Intel is much more efficient at this point than AMD. Anyone who goes with an intel chip can either cut costs on the battery or pay the same and make a better device because it goes longer without a charge. Why go AMD?

Not that I think they're going to die out. Zen should be about on par with haswell, and 400 series is looking really promising especially as APUs go.

Tip to those that are new on LTT forum- quote a post so that the person you are quoting gets a notification, otherwise they'll have no idea that you did. You can also use a tag such as @Ryoutarou97 (replace my username with anyone's. You should get a dropdown after you type the "@")to send a notification, but quoting is preferable.

Feel free to PM me about absolutely anything be it tech, math, literature, etc. I'll try my best to help. I'm currently looking for a cheap used build for around $25 to set up as a home server if anyone is selling.

If you are a native speaker please use proper English if you can. Punctuation, capitalization, and spelling are as important to making your message readable as proper night theme formatting is.

My build is fully operational, but won't be posted until after I get a GPU in it and the case arted up.

Still don't understand how people:

"Oh I am on a low budget but I REFUSE to look at second hand cards." I saw a second hand GTX 680 for 100€ today.

There's nothing wrong with buying used but some people would just rather have something new. If buying used parts didn't matter to me, I would probably wind up with a really decent build

I'm okay with buying used parts some of them not all of them but if they were available -_-.

I know ( not 100% sure )that Zen is going to be on par with Haswell so I don't know how Zen is going to help that much as Intel will probably have better performance but maybe something will happen.

Sure thing man I'm a console fanboy if that's what you want but can you tell me why ?

So ignorant, they can use other stuff you know ? PowerPC ? cell processors ? ARM maybe ? figure something out ?

Or go back to Intel x86 (because that's what the original Xbox was with its 733Mhz Pentium III-as close to a PC as any 'next gen' console).

Where we're at, we need 64-bit operations.

Intel 64 was a pile of crap because it couldn't properly run x86 programs.

I'm sure like if they made a deal with Intel Intel would make chips that are like good and able to perform 64 bit operations.

Ideally I would love for them to get better, but each year it feels more like empty promises followed up with "Wait till next year, they'll show Intel/Nvidia!" AMD's product line isn't bad, they're just overhyped when it comes to new tech and their competition has way more money to throw into R&D that by the time they are caught up, they're already behind a gen.

@TheConverter hasn't fully converted himself from playing games on a console. He doesn't realise how much of a difference there is on laptops with 1440p screens compared to those with 2160p screens.

One time he showed how we need 6GB of VRAM when he was just playing 2005 games at 8K that topped around at 5-6GB VRAM........

Don't think that works, you would need a newer game at res/setting that everybody uses to prove we need more than 6GB of VRAM.

The Xbox One and PS4 have the proper x86-64 technology in it. And quite a number of games take advantage of it.

I just treat him as one of the wandering PC peasants from the time of the first Xbox. Because back then the Xbox was better for gaming than even more expensive PC (I should know, my PC performed a hell of a lot worse than my Xbox-and it had newer components). Now on the otherhand, consoles blow compared to PC of the same or similar cost.

9 FPS at Ultra Settings  :P Skyrim vanilla was locked 60FPS

I always praised how AMD always puts a shiton of vram on their cards, hope they won't stop doing that soon  ;)

HBM V2 will have a cap of 32GB of vram, consumer graphic cards will likely either have 8GB or 16GB of HBM2. Now we only need developers who use that vram for high res textures. Talking about Witcher 3, it has some of the worst textures for a 2015 game.

I'll put it this way, how many consoles have had each generation use the same architecture?

If you wanna be technical, the PS1 and PS2 used a custom version of MIPS.

But the mindset of Microsoft and Sony had when developing these consoles, they were trying to aim for easy-to-develop PC-like hardware with PC-like APIs. Chances are, whatever Microsoft and Sony do next (or even Nintendo), it's gonna be x86-64 based consoles.
