60hz vs 144hz

Is there really a significant difference in performance and fidelity between a 60hz and 144hz monitor? Can the eye really distinguish between the two? I read the latter makes games smoothe like butter. But can't a 60hz achieve the same effect with a faster graphics card(especially SLI config) with appropriate drivers or one with G-sync or even V-syn enabled. For example, my monitor is a Dell U2711 with 2GTX 980's in SLI. I'm using the latest Win 10 ready drivers and the games that I play: Advanced Warfare, GTA 5, Batman Arkham Night, Battlefield 4, all with settings maxed, look absolutely gorgeous and run smoothe as ever. I don't want to invest in a 144hz montior if I don't have to.

Oh I can tell you in a heartbeat the difference between 60 and 144 hz, there's no substitute for a higher refresh rate.

144hx makes a huge diffrence hell even 75hz looks much better than 60
