love it and yea i can swing a 8320 for sure just wondering though arent those like hella old chips lol.

860K is newer and has better IPC so yes depends on what you play!

So long story short i sold my Athlon x4 750k rig and I'm wanting an upgrade. I just got my first real job and I am looking to spend around 800$ usd but it can go up or down I am wanting dual ultra wide monitors or maybe triple 1920x1080 monitors (not included in the 800$).

 

TL;DR  Bad arse rig wanted not sure what to go with I am a huge AMD fanboy and would love to go with an AMD chip again since i was so happy with my little Athlon but they don't have a higher end chip unless you want the ancient tech of the 9590 ( i don't). I was thinking Athlon 860k or Intel i5 4670 k and spend the left over on a r9 380 / r9 290 (if i can find a cheap open box or refurbished).

reason i was thinking about going Athlon is wouldn't it be good enough for what i'm wanting just a general gaming rig and i also kinda want to hold out for AMD zen in 2016 i don't want to spend a wack tonne on cpu + mobo because i'm sure it will be gone the sec zen is released.

This would be good. Much better than any AMD processor, and the R9 390 is a SOLID GPU choice, very good performance.

I say you can get a Athlon X4 860K, FX-6300 or FX-8320 if you OC. If not then go fo FX-6350, FX-8350 or FX-8370. ^_^

 

But beware the only motherboard worth getting for AM3+ is a MSI 970 Gaming or better anything else may FRY AND BURN!!! :(

 

Also for the FM2+ you should get a MSI A88X motherboard named V2 behind cause they are Kaveri/Steamroller ready out of the box! :D

i had my 750k @ 4.7 ghz and during the winter @ 5 ghz so no probs overclocking :)

thanks but can you over clock the 4460? its not that big of a deal i just like to not that i need the performance or anything more or less its a because i can sorta thing.

Well... the 4670K is far away from the 860K, dunno why you compare them. Also isn't the i5 6600K out?

yes i know its a huge difference idk abt the 6600k i havent seen it on newegg. but I like the 860k because that little chip is a beast and i loved my 750k also was thinking to go that route just until amd releases the new chips or maybe just go intel and not worry about it its soooo tough deciding these things!

If zen sux, u sell mobo and cpu and ram , keeping the rest, and you get skylake.

So long story short i sold my Athlon x4 750k rig and I'm wanting an upgrade. I just got my first real job and I am looking to spend around 800$ usd but it can go up or down I am wanting dual ultra wide monitors or maybe triple 1920x1080 monitors (not included in the 800$).

 

TL;DR  Bad arse rig wanted not sure what to go with I am a huge AMD fanboy and would love to go with an AMD chip again since i was so happy with my little Athlon but they don't have a higher end chip unless you want the ancient tech of the 9590 ( i don't). I was thinking Athlon 860k or Intel i5 4670 k and spend the left over on a r9 380 / r9 290 (if i can find a cheap open box or refurbished).

reason i was thinking about going Athlon is wouldn't it be good enough for what i'm wanting just a general gaming rig and i also kinda want to hold out for AMD zen in 2016 i don't want to spend a wack tonne on cpu + mobo because i'm sure it will be gone the sec zen is released.

that actually is pretty good idea, especially since most of my games are like fallout 3, dota 2, league of legends. lol the most graphically demanding game i play is dying light and tomb raider :) btw tomb raider runs great on those athlons.... i wish i didnt sell my old rig :'(

860K is newer and has better IPC so yes depends on what you play!

For DotA2 and LoL, that setup will without any problem get you 35-40 FPS at medium to high settings. Built a similar setup for a friend of mine, he only nerds DotA2...

 

my girlfriend, she has a APU setup too, plays Guildwars2 at max with around 30FPS at 1080p. WoW is a bit harsher, dunno why, but very likely due to the recent graphics update it had. Still, turn a few settings down and BAM 30 FPS, smooth sailing.

 

 

If you are willing to turn down resolution to 1600x900, you should get 40FPS or more in almost every title at medium to high settings

The 4460 is a locked chip.

But IIRC it'll still beat the pants off the AMD chips you're looking at, regardless of how high you've OC'd them.

The 4460 is a locked chip.

But IIRC it'll still beat the pants off the AMD chips you're looking at, regardless of how high you've OC'd them.

860K is newer and has better IPC so yes depends on what you play!

 

Indie games and such get 860K

 

Mainstream games go FX ;) (same as 760K but more cores)

I love the way you think do you know how the 860k oc's? ill just do that and grab a 290/380/280x what ever i can get for the best price.

new build i am going 860k corsair h80I (already got 1) r9 380 8gb of ram and lots of overclocking :)
