1080p gpu

i need a gpu that will last around 3-4 years + it should run everything at max on 1080p for around 2 years.

was thinking a 970, 970 sli, 980, 980 sli, or a 980 ti. price is max 1500$

980 ti for now is overkill for 1080p, however it is the most ''future-proof'' and will most likely max out games at 1080p for 2 years if not more.

What's your PSU? And also have you purchased all the other things already or can you still change them? 

 

For 1080p at max for 2 years, you'd probably want more than a 970, but 970sli is the same performance as a 980Ti, so maybe a bit overkill, and if you were going to go that route you may as well just buy a 980Ti now instead, because a single card solution is normally better. A 980 should be able to satisfy you for a couple years, although no one can really be sure.

Imo, I would get a single Titan X, and if in two years it starts struggling (I doubt it), you can get another.

GPUs can't be overkill, if you have the budget to get the best available then you should get the best available.

The minimum I'd start with if you want to max everything for 2 years is a 390x or higher.

That is by far the worst idea. Not every game supports SLI and with 3.5 GB of VRAM 1440p will require minimum settings within a year as a lot of games are already going over that limit. Get a 390X/980/Fury for 1080p max for 2 years. I'd personally go with the Fury.

But even a GTX980ti cant run Witcher3 with constantly 60fps+ on 1080p with Hairworks on.

So actually you search for something that cant exist below SLI/Xfire setups.

I think youre asking yourself the wrong question. You should be thinking how much $ you want to spend. Something like a 390 should be plenty but if you feel like spending more then go for the 980ti. I wouldnt recommend the 970 or anything under that and i also wouldnt recommend a crossfire/sli setup for 1080p.

Just saying my 980Ti runs Witcher 3 with a constant 60fps+ on 1080p with hairworks setting maxed, and all other settings maxed out too, sooooooo yeah ._.

Buying with the intention of future proofing doesn't really work. Right now there are people with a 780 ti (still a powerful GPU) and upgrading to a 980 ti, and that's a single generation. No one knows what Nvidia and AMD will release, and when to upgrade is very personal, there are people using a 580 and happy with it. I'd say since your GPU budget is big, a 980 ti is the best card you can get, DON'T get 2 cards, even dual 980 ti, since when you wanna upgrade having some extra money will be nice, and again, i see people with dual 780 ti and wanting to upgrade already cause they want more Vram, and we simply don't know what's  gonna be the case for the current GPUs, so get a 980 ti, it will DESTROY anything you throw at it at 1080p, and if it lacks, you can get a second one. Also, maybe investing on a 1440p display would be a better idea since for 1080p a 980 is already overkill.

i have to disagree with you, the 970 and 390 are now more ''high'' end then the 290x. they perform better so.. But on topic i would buy a 970 or a R9 390 both great 1080p cards. Furtureproofing does not ''exist'' so buy the best card you can. If you have the money for a 980ti buy it

Don't bother futureproofing. You end up spending more than you would have done if you bought lower end but more regularly. Furthermore if you are willing to spend money on multiple 970s, 980s or a 980 Ti for the love of god spend something on a better monitor than 1080p.
