Rocket League - Thoughts?

Watched Angry Joe's review of this game and he really enjoyed it. Looks like a lot of fun and the price isn't bad (~$20).

 

Any of you playing this game and if so, what do you think of it? Worth $20?

I haven't played it yet, but I've been watching a TON of JP streaming it (www.twitch.com/ItmeJP), along with Angry Joe's review.

 

Really cool ideal. Simple mechanics, easy to learn, hard to master.

 

I'd like to try it sooner or later, but from what I hear, it's by far best to get a 3-man team together over Skype/Voice chat.

If you have some friends to play it with it can be great fun. It also has local coop which can be a whole load of fun

It's worth it, it runs well, has a lot of multiplayer options (i think everything you could want actually) and it's just very satisfying when you make an awesome goal

If you can wait, wait, It is REALLY fun, and goals get ridiculously satisfying. But I'm not quite sure it's $20 of fun, if it EVER goes on sale definitely pick it up.

How is the online community? If I just want to jump into a random server, do people get upset if you're a noob or do they generally just play for fun?

 

I play a lot of Day of Defeat Source - usually when watching the WAN show, Techtalk, PCper and other similar shows/podcasts on the 2nd display. I like playing fast-paced, but somewhat mindless games while listening to those shows because I can't sit still for long periods of time. lol. So I'm looking for other games like this that I can play while watching/listening. Rocket League sounds like it might fit the bill.

It looks like fun. I used to love playing a gametype similar to it back in the halo 3 custom games days. But it seems to be too linear for a $20 game. I can see it costing $5, which i'll totally pick it up if it's that price. But $20 seems too much for a game that has one game mode essentially.

Definitely going to get it. Just not for 20€. I had the game before rocket league (Supersonic acrobatic rocketpowered battlecars), loved it. However - I do feel like they just retextured the old game and added car customization. The maps look like a retexture too, the cars as well. However, it also does something better than the old game, being enhanced multiplayer (if anyone played the old game, you know that there was only that ONE server you could connect to). IMHO 20€ is a bit much to ask for, for a retexture, but I think if it goes on 25 or 50% sale at some point on steam, I will get it.

Hmmm... I might wait a month or so for it to go on sale then. If it doesn't, I'll just grab it for $20. If I get a lot of play time and enjoyment out of it, then it was worth the price.

How does the game run? Doesn't look very demanding. Nobody has mentioned any frame rate limits so far, so I'll take that as a good sign.

the game is limited to 62 fps, you can easily edit an ini file like I have to unlock it.

But even then you have yo limit it to 80 as anything above that cause camera issues when not in ball cam.

But don't let it put you off, 80 is more then enough, really really good game.

On to how it runs, i maintain that locked 80 constant, I think I also maintained 144 constant until I realized the camera issue.

There is a new patch coming very soon also, I'm hoping it's the patch that allows us to search for people on console

IT'S AWESOME...i'm literally sinking HOURS of gameplay everyday i'm completely and totally addicted to rocket league...IMHO it,s a must have and it will only get better tha game is still in is infancy.

an R9 280 or GTX 760 can max out this game...it use around 55% of my GTX 780 with the graphics maxed out at 1080p...no support for DSR so far though.

Once I get my rig, probably one of the first games I'm going to buy. The fact that it's $20 is an unbeatable price for a game like this.
