Why is pc gaming so expensive?

jonadegraaf

I'm relatively new to the pc gaming community but quickly found it that pc gaming is rather expensive. Everytime i ask for someone to create a 500 euro gaming pc there's always someone saying that i should atleast spend a 1000 euro's to get something good...

That's alot of money for me and i don't want to spend somuch just for gaming. Is there a solution for people like me? And will pc gaming ever be available for people who want the pc experience but don't have the money?

Lol you can get a decent pc for 500 euro. You wont be able to max out all the settings, but you will still get to play and enjoy the games.

It's not, you can build something that will be good for basically everything you'll ever end up doing with it for €500

It's expensive because hardware is just expensive. Although it's still less expensive than consoles are in the long run. A $1000 PC will likely last through two generations of consoles, and even if it doesn't, the upgrades are cheaper than just buying a new console. Then you have cheaper games, and no subscription like Xbox Live Gold or whatever, although there are subscription based MMO's out there.

A $500 PC isn't going to be bad, not at all. In fact it's still going to perform better than the consoles. A $1000 PC is just considered a better investment because it will more than likely last longer, and you wont have to upgrade as often.

It isn't expensive, it is us the PC gamers that get addicted sometimes to hardware upgrades and waste a ton of money on pointless upgrades. You can get a decent 600 dollar 1080p no frills gaming machines with a r9 280.

If you're simply looking to play games, then it's stupid to buy a PC for it. If you are a graphics enthusiast tho... then it becomes worth it.

You can build a PC for the same price as buying a console. Sure it isn't gonna be great, but it'll play games and also let you browse the web and do any light work for school like word processing.

I'd rather invest $500-1000 and pay $1-$65 for my games, then to invest into a locked ecosystem with lesser multi-app abilities for $400-500 and pay $50-100 for games.

PC's are cheaper in the long run... and you don't need to latest bells and whistles to do a great MANY MORE things.

/Content creation alone,.. a $500 PC can make you a lot of money with the right ideas and confidence/marketing.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

the short answer is it's not expensive you just have to learn to make it cheap or have someone teach you. The reality is that yes you need a 1000 euro rig to run everything at almost max setting but the reality is also that you most likely will find the cheaper option of mid setting as entertaining. So yes there is a solution simply make a value rig and upgrade it when you'll want better ^^ the important is just to get started after that you'll learn pretty quickly that it doesn't have to be expensive.

Small question because I'm curious do you speak french to ? well if you do or if you need anything you can pm me ^^

Very possible to make a good build for 500 all you would still need is a 30 Euro case. Btw this is just something I quickly slapped together to get an idea of prices.

Glad to see someone recommending something with a decent upgrade path instead of a cheapass AMD CPU that has pretty much no upgrade path at all.
