What happens IF AMD goes out of business?

IMPERIUS

Hi!

Just wondered what would happen if AMD goes bankrupt, then only intel and nvidia would be on the market.

What would that mean for the consumer?

I think (I'm just a noob) the prices will go up and and the development will slow down cuz there is no competition.

Your thoughts?

Longboarders/ skaters message me!

$1000 GTX 1060s and $10000 GTX 1080TIs. That's what would happen.

that wouldn't be a smart move on Nividas part.

nvidia and intel won't let AMD go completely out of business because of anti-trust issues

It's exaggerating but it would happen nothing would stop Nvidia and Intel from racking up their prices without competition

Why wouldn't it be? There are no other options. you'd be forced to pay if you needed it

Specs: 4790k | Asus Z-97 Pro Wifi | MX100 512GB SSD | NZXT H440 Plastidipped Black | Dark Rock 3 CPU Cooler | MSI 290x Lightning | EVGA 850 G2 | 3x Noctua Industrial NF-F12's

Bought a powermac G5, expect a mod log sometime in 2015

Corsair is overrated, and Anime is ruined by the people who watch it

They would go up a little, Gpus are optional, so nobody will buy period.

Intel maybe

but nivida would be fucked, since gpus are optional if they raise to high. Boycott and they will lower back down

I hope they go out of business, then ATI comes back with some legitimate CPUs and GPUs. Not just rebrands.

No one is just gonna stop PC gaming and GPUs are necessary for gaming and computing so sure as hell people need it.

Why stop? Older gpus will be on the internet for months, that will run games just fine. it will be for a short period of time, but still will show something.

If they put at a lower price they prob could make more money.

Intel isn't going to go into the discrete GPU market, they're too afraid of anti-trust.

And GPUs aren't really optional for gaming...

Not in the future they won't. Try running your 8k panels on a 295x2, or even 2 of them.

Discontinued GPUs are gonna be very limited it's not like lots people are gonna get their hands one, they probably won't keep up with the increasing game requirements and higher resolutions, most people will put up with the price rises and Nvidia can easily do what they are doing to Kepler and cripple old architectures

Well, exactly what happens with intel.

i7's broadwell are 100$ more expensive than normal i7 while being utterly bad... It is a good thing since previous generations will last longer but once you'll ''have to" update that's going to hurt.

no more innovation really, AMD provides competition to drive progress

And they are doing a terrible job at actually competing in the recent years. Especially on the CPU side of things.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 3700x / GPU: Asus Radeon RX 6750XT OC 12GB / RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 2x8GB DDR4-3200
MOBO: MSI B450m Gaming Plus / NVME: Corsair MP510 240GB / Case: TT Core v21 / PSU: Seasonic 750W / OS: Win 10 Pro

I would feel that knowing they would get forced to split up, would be reason enough not to jack prices.............Give em a chance, and if they fuck up, then fuck them up.
