So, my house got scoped out by burglars, and I cant sleep

This series of events happened on July 12th, 2015 in the street block where I live. The nearest cross street is 2 and is up my street. Street 3 is down my street. My street block is between 2 and 3.

 

At about 2:45 AM an car was driving down my street from 2 headed towards 3. The car had its horn constantly blaring. The car stopped on my street somewhere between 2 and 3. After stopping, the car still was honking its horn continuously for about 2 minutes. An neighbor was heard yelling "Shut the fuck up" to whoever was in the car. After which the car horn stopped.

 

Next at 2:58 AM a middle school aged (approximately 9-11 years old) white male child frantically was ringing my doorbell and knocking on my house door. The child had brown hair and had an blanket with him. The child seemed confused and panicked. He claimed he was lost, he came into our house and sat on the sofa trying to explain what was happening.

 

I asked the child if he knew where his parents were and he replied that they were driving when they stopped and exited the vehicle. He specifically said he was with his mom. He also said that he didn't know where he was and that he was confused because his mom got out of the car to use the restroom.
I noticed that the child was curiously looking around the living room while trying to cover his face with the blanket he had with him.
At this point my father walked outside with a flashlight to try and see if his parents were somehow outside. The child followed my father outside to try and locate his parents.

 

While outside two adults, one male and one female were walking up my street from 3 towards 2. My father asked if the boy was their son to which the female responded "Yes". The male yelled "Joey get over here!". The female then said "Sorry for this". The child then proceeded to run towards the two adults.

The two adults and the child entered a newer model KIA vehicle which was either white or silver and proceeded to drive off.

 

Of note: During the same night one of the neighbors were having a fairly large party/gathering. The gathering was peaceful, but there were a lot of vehicles on the street. At the time we believed that the child and two adults may have been at this party. But after asking the homeowners/tenants at 11 AM on the same day, they responded that there were no children at their party and that the two adults were not anybody they likely knew, nor attended the party.

Also, the child only mentioned his mom, and not any male. His story seemed bizarre and we slowly realized it didn't make logical sense.

 

This leaves me to believe that the two adult subjects may have used the party to hide the fact that they may have been scoping (casing) nearby homes for possible burglary and also using the car horn and child as an technique to either distract residents or to possibly target nearby homes.

 

After informing local law enforcement, they agree that this type of technique is used by burglars to case (scope) out homes, nothing like this has been reported recently in my area, but similar incidents have happened in the past in both the city I live and my neighboring city (I live near city boundaries). So far all the previous cases involving similar situations have been unsolved as no suspects have been ID. So now 2 different county sheriff's departments are investigating.

I'm paranoid to even go to sleep now. Its sad to think that burglars would use children to scope out homes. They know how to blend in when there are nearby events.

Sadly, it isn't. Had the cops out today, and others have fallen victim to the same tactics. They use children to trick people into letting them into their homes and looking for valuables.

And this is also why I don't answer my front door for any reason.  Don't give a shit if a baby orphan dies if I don't answer my front door...shit stays closed.  I don't need to open it to call the cops for you.

Anyways, you're not going to get robbed at night.  The type of people who do this elaborate setup of having a decoy kid case the place aren't the smash and grab violence type.  More likely than not you'll get robbed when you're not home.  Start looking for random cars on the street trying to figure out when you go to work and come home.

 

Or it's all a strange coincidence and the kid really was lost....

If they used a child they won't use firearms, i mean whats the point? if your objective is a broad daylight robbery no need of sneaking a child in..

Anyways another option if you fear that possibility is to attract attention to your house, go outside, make sure you are visible, open all windows. Didn't know the US is a wild west where anyone can enter your home with a assault rifle but oh well

some east-block gang stole diesel, lamps, gps equipmemt and lamps from tractors on a farm close to where i live. (they got close to 15000 usd in diesel and 100k worth of jhondeere gps's and other extras)

If you read the last paragraph of the OP you'd see that the kid probably wasn't lost. Our local county sheriff informed us that other have been burglarized in our same city and neighboring city using the same technique. The description of the kid, car, and two adult subjects matches previous burglaries. They haven't been I'D yet. They like to scope out places when people are throwing parties because they can blend in.

 

All our neighbors are on edge now.
