Call of Duty series in general is only the BEST fps for the market on console because it is easy to play and there is no learning curve resulting in a toxic community that thinks they are better than everyone else because it is so easy and runs great for the cousole

 

PC on the other hand is different story. we have many more actual FPS games we can choose from. PC can run them fine and easily and some need a learning curve but some dont. Battlefield for example is great on PC but failed on console.

CoD4 is the best based on the fact that the game had balancing aspects to everything. You were only overpowered if you knew how to play the map correctly with killstreak control and choke points. CoD4 still has a lot of people playing on PC due to it having dedicated community server support, there are very little cheaters as well and they are usually server banned by admins within a hour.

 

And don't get me wrong, I loved Mw2, Black Ops 1, and WaW, but for other reasons. Mw2 just expanded on CoD4 and made it more "user friendly", so it wasn't difficult to play at all due to all the killstreak options. Black Ops 1 is probably my second favorite CoD due to the theme and gun customization options available, also the maps were great, I think it has dedicated servers as well unlike Mw2. WaW is probably my favorite CoD zombies game because of how original it was with its idea of map control for a zombies gametype, I know I spent hundreds of hours playing zombies on WaW and Black Ops 1 alone.

cod4 was a reskin of cod2 in many ways. Actually, the engine didn't change much after that at all for many years. Plus the PC community for 2 and mods/maps were a lot more expansive. I had a lot of fun modding 2 and 4, but 2 was better online, simply because it was more of a blank canvas.

The campaign wasn't that great. Best campaign was Call of Duty Finest Hour, in my opinion. I'd say Call of Duty 4 had best multiplayer though, granted, I don't care much for multiplayer to begin with.
