Looking for a new vehicle

Statik

Hey guys,

So long story short I'm driving a 25 year old piece of absolute shit (1990 Honda Accord). And I'm looking for something new. I originally wanted a nice half ton, but stepped that down to a tacoma. But I've started to realize the retarded insurance rates ($400+ per month), plus the monthly payments on a $20-30k truck are insanely pricey as is, and it makes the prospect of moving out that much more slim.

I briefly looked at something like an '06 WRX or WRX STI, but the insurance rates cleared those of a half ton by miles.

I just booked a test drive tomorrow on a 2014 Mitsubishi Lancer SE, and it seems like a decent little car. Does anyone have experience with this car? Or any tips on a nice little car?

I want something "nicer" than another little econo shitbox, but don't want some big dollar fancy ass car.

Don't you need a AWD considering it's all-year driving vehicle? Suby WRX is good but not a whole lot of room and it's considerably a small car. It isn't as pricey as the STI.

Probably not a car for Calgary Winters, but I like my mini cooper. Super efficient, and sporty. But you have to like them and you have to like small cars. They aren't super expensive either - 21 000 and 25 000 for the S model. There are a lot of used ones (at least in BC) But they are front wheel drive....

It definitely fits that anyway.

I bought a 2006 scion tC about 4 years ago.  Only major thing that has gone wrong with it was the clutch last year.  Apparently the previous owner didn't know how to drive a stick properly.  But anyways it good on gas, safe, and most importantly the engine is incredibly reliable.  I just change my oil every 5K miles and she has been good to go.

Buy a used mid size truck for 5-7k, save money to move out. There's no need to buy a brand new vehicle if you can't afford it.

If you can find an old ford ranger or toyota tacoma with sub 200k miles in good condition it can last you for years.

Judging how the Lancer is the WRX's competition, I don't think you will be seeing any insurance rate differences, however it is not an Evo, so it might. Also, stick is fun. Even a cheap car with a manual transmission is fun. If you want something sporty, or something to feel sporty, I suggest getting either a V6 coupe like a 350Z or I6 sedan like a 328i, or just a Miata!

I suppose I do, but I drove all winter in my shitmobile, which is FWD, with bald as hell, old as hell all seasons, and I had zero issues. This new car, and my old car are both stick, so that really helps in the winter. A WRX would be nice, but insurance rates are still really high.

I just don't know how I feel about that. First off I hate rangers. Secondly, I want something nice. Anything here for 5-7k as a truck has over 200k, and I don't want that. I want something newer and nicer.

I got a rough quote online for like $315, much cheaper than the $450-500 for WRX.

I also said I don't want something stupidly expensive or fancy. Giving me a 350z or a BMW doesn't really fit that criteria.

Actually, the 350Z has gone down in price, since it's getting a little old. It's definitely not stupid expensive, and you can also find CHEAP 328i sedans, especially the E39 5-series or some other. I'm kind of surprised, but since it isn't an Evo, that is to be expected. Also, I recommend a Miata, those are HELLA fun, but I see that you wanted a full size pickup before, so...

Comes with a tree hugger sticker pre-applied.

Firstly, that Outback isn't that good on km/L (or L/100 km) (or MPG).

Secondly, what's so bad if a car gets great fuel economy? (Like the Toyota Prius).

Lastly, driving a car (even a Model S) still has an impact on the environment at least hybrids and EVs try to offset that impact by less or no tail pipe emissions.

Doesn't mean I want to look like a douche driving a Prius. Maybe the Tesla, but... Also, have you seen what it takes to make those batteries?

Not the wrong place, just the inappropriate place. Obviously WebMD is the place to ask if you have ass cancer. Short answer: Yes.
