I have the chance to buy an r9 290 from Sapphire for $150 and was wondering if the card was worth that price.

Used? Hmm...is there a warranty or something still for it? Would suck buying it only for it to die a month later.

1. do you know if it is used for bitcion mining?
2. What cooler does it have? Reference or the Tri X cooler?

If it's the second cooler and and the answer to the first question was "not used for mining" than go for it

Make sure that the card is not a reference (bitcoins)

And make sure it has warranty and has no damges

You could possibly ask him, don't think there is a way to easily see if it was used for it.

Hell, I got my gpu (MSI R9 270x) for $150. A 290 for the same price? Yes. Unless it was used for bitcoin mining. That drains the life out of any GPU :(
