Do You Ever Get Too Old for Gaming?

What mythical world do you live in? A few of my guild members are 60+ and are goddamn hardcore.

There is no 40 year olds in professional gaming, look at the Dota, CS:GO or LoL championship streams. Everyone is 30 or less.

Tell your mother it's better to sit on your ass and actually use your brain on video games as opposed to sitting on your ass watching TV which requires nothing of you, which is what most of the world probably does.

You're never too old to play video games. Priorities may change, but the gaming urge doesn't die.

My grandpa is 74 and stills plays serious sam, kiss psycho circus and all the quake games. My father is 48 and still plays skyrim/oblivion, and has even played a few MMO's for several years. I would say no, you are never too old for gaming. Everyone likes games, regardless of what type they are. Board games, card games, sports, etc. When people tell you that you are too old for games, just remind them that they still play games (statistically speaking, would be hard to NOT play games, considering how many things fall under that title). 

 

People tend to have this false perspective on what is qualified as gaming. It's been this way for as long as i can remember. For example: you have grown men making fun of children for playing pokemon cards or dungeons and dragons, but they will immediately go play poker or start a fantasy football league after just scolding the children and nerds for doing the same thing.

 

Now with smart phones and app stores, gaming as a whole has spread far and wide. Everyone is a gamer. Whether they choose to believe so is an entirely different subject.

Very valid point. My dad plays a few games on his tablet and games with me on my ps2 from time to time.

I don't believe that you can be too old for gaming. And when someone says gaming, I take into account board games and card games alike. I got my grandma to play GTA Vice City with me when I was younger, she just enjoyed driving around though obviously the rest of the game was a huge no-no in her eyes. Too busy for games, however, yes.

Lol.  She trys to get me to do stuff outside all the time and I'm just like...we've spent years perfecting the pc and the indoor though. haha

you dont get too old for gaming, your taste in games may change tho.

if gaming makes you feel young, your mental health at later age will not go down as quickly.

 

(when you get old, your reaction time may also start to lack a bit -> slower paced games)

Nothing wrong at all with doing stuff outside, but I think the times where outdoor activities provided the most entertainment for people is rapidly passing.

It's just silly when people complain about video games when others watch TV which in fact takes less effort and mental processing to partake in.

I don't believe in outgrowing pass times because in all honesty, playing a lot of games is equally shitty to watching a lot of movies if either of those things are considered shitty. Your life choices and how you spend your time though should not be decided by other people and you should choose your own priorities if that's what you're asking, but choose responsibly.

Very true. A don't get me wrong. I've spent my fair bit outside with various camping trips and other activities, but you're very right, more and more people are getting less enjoyed out of being outdoors.

So nope, I didn't get too old for Gaming, Gaming just got a whole lot better after I was financially stable on my own!!!

/I just turned 32, so while I'm not OLD OLD,... I'm a fair way away from being a teen, which is when I first got to use a computer.

/Taste in games has certainly changed...

 

Spose all thats changed is the IP's I used to follow,....I still like my twitch shooters,.. but COD aint one of em, as an example.

I love gaming now that I'm old.  I can afford a top of the line rig, games, and all that other shit.  Gaming only gets better as you get older, you'd be surprised how many people over 40 game.
