What board do you have?

May be worth just taking the heatsinks off and painting them.

I don'T PreSS caPs.. I juST Hit THe keYboARd so HarD iT CriTs :P

I merely painted over the pcie covers for my motherboards, so it wasent extensive by any stretch, but it came out not too shabby (plastidip is pretty forgiving)

 

Kyle recently made a video on the same topic so it might be worth checking it out.

I wouldn't do it.

 

You would have to be extremely careful to not get paint into the wrong spots. You could even damage much more then the motherboard if you reconnect it and overlooked a spot in the cleanup process.

z97I-plus itx. I was thinking of trying to paint the the pcie slot and the ram slots chrome. I have thought about using an aluminium tape, but it probably wouldn't look as good.

As long as you use non conductive paint and don't touch thermally sensible parts (VRMs, PCH, socket, etc...) and electrical connections (PCI(-e) pins, socket, RAM pins, power pins, SATA pins, header pins, etc...) you're fine.

Have you ever done any mobo painting? Just wanted to know if you had any tips.

 

You can paint the motherboard but as said it's not recommended due to the risk, just be prepared if you do end up with a dead or partially functioning board. Main thing is proper masking to prevent over spray. The main issue Linus encountered was masking around the components on the board, something like liquid masking tape where you brush on will work well for those cases.

 

Just be sure to afterwards clean or have old cards and RAM to insert into the slots to clean off the paint that got on the contacts to get a proper connection. I have seen others fill the slots with a dummy card or cardboard which does work to a point but might show the color underneath when done.

If you have a CF Foam spray kit to spray up all of the PCIE and RAM slots, then fucking go for it, but if not, I don't recommend it.

If your talking about spray foam in the slots I don't know what your thinking but just no, that won't work at all.

Others have covered the pins with cut offs of PCI-E x16 slots from old cards or super cheap PCI-E extension cables. Another is using cardboard but not as effective but others have tried it.

If you want to paint the MOBO go for it man. But be extremely careful and mask everything I mean everything off
