It probably won't mean cheaper, faster internet for the consumer, but what it might mean is a faster deployment of fiber to the masses by ISP's which is definitely a win for customers.

Pffff. ISPs don't care about customers. Take a look at Time Warner randomly shutting of internet and Comcast demanding to know why a customer is leaving their service. Also after the whole Net Neutrality thing my internet bill has just kept going up.

Most ISPs, ISPs like Google and most local fibar companys do actually do care. Google literally benefit from faster internet and local fiber companys are usually so small they can't afford to lose customers so they will do anything to keep you from going to the big guys.

At least i already have regular FTTH 500mbs/200mbps down/up for 10euro, dont think we will get a bigger/cheaper update anytime soon, cause its just been researched, and second we wont need that much bandwidth anytime soon.1Gbps is more than enough for any household, for now. Even on 4K streaming 50mpbs is enough for 1 stream.

We pay $130/mo. for 75/75 from Verizon. If the prices for Fiber go as low as $20, that'll be a huge deal. At the same time, you would also have to pay for phone and TV (if you need it, of course)

This would have been useful before the NBN was partially rolled out. Costs would have been a shitload less and a lot more fibre could have been installed.

must be satellite, I suffered from it in the past, but not as bad as you. i had$70/mo  1.5mbps/0.75mbps 200mb daily cap

We have 10mibt DSL but we also have 2 TVs which work trough internet... ISP says that one TV needs 4mbits, but really its not that bad but still...And thankfully Im the only one in the house who uses the internet heavily but still would love to have faster net to download stuff faster.

I have 0.13 down...0.06 up...60 dollars a month...

 

oh and TV signal using digital actually uses 4.8mb/s since they don't even care to reduce the format...which they could use H.264 and be 4-8x less bandwidth hogs.

Hopefully fiber spreads faster everywhere and prices are reasonable. 100mbps should be a standard for modern home while 1gbps or more as premium options.

10mbit isn't too bad, i only get 30mbit for a billion dollars a month from comcast...

Man I wish I could even crank up my dsl. Phone network says I could avail 20mbps for $70/month but not possible where I live. And If switch for time Warner, they're asking for $5k installation fee. Fml living in the country side, if only my house was 100ft closer to the road.

I'm currently with EE Fibre broadband and will be swiftly moving to Plusnet when my contract comes to an end. At the moment its £40 a month but when I swap to plusnet it'll reduce to only £27 a month :D
