Which do i need?

So I have this dilemma ... Should I buy an AMD FX 8 core chip or a core I5? Would I be worth it to spend the little extra and get the core I5 or save a little with team red?

You generally don't spend more if you buy 4460+h81. But i'd take i5 any day, unless you know you can use fx.

Intel has the upper hand man, but just in case what models are we talking about?

i5 all the way for games and most other tasks.

Really depends on tasks, content creation, heavy rendering, VM, multi threaded tasks would be better on a FX(8C) compared to locked i5. i5 would be better for gaming and most other tasks.

If your not heavy gaming, a i3 would be fine for light gaming and school work.

Well I have a 1440p monitor and a gtx 770 lined up so a core i3 would bottleneck all that !

@XTankSlayerX used to run a Ivy Bridge i3 with a GTX 770 and it ran fine, even GTA 5.

like what games if its just stuff like minecraft and csgo you would be fine with an i3 but if your playing stuff like battle feild, gta and newer more high end games then i5 would be best option, i have one and can honestly recomend it if your going to be gaming

edit: i seen you said you have a 770 and a 1440p monitor ids say go for i5, it will be better for the future if you upgrade gpu`s

Ok well I think all go with Intel it seems "future proof" as much as I hate that term but it seems to be better

the 4690k is worth it if you can afford it

it will last you longer than a cheaper i5, and IMO worth the price

an i5 would be much better. There is absolutly no good reason to buy a fx chip right now. They are horribly outdated.
