Steam selling adult anime games & not having a full proof way to make sure adults are playing them?

Backlog4life

I just noticed some games on sale for the Steam Summer Sale are adult anime games.  When the heck did Steam start selling these?  Also all it asks in order to see the content about the game is entering your birth date info. which people can fake.  I think on Steam they need to do more than that.  I think if there is not a credit card assigned to the account then it should not allow the user to view the content as it is another step in stopping kids from seeing content they shouldn't see.  Now yes that isn't full proof but it's something.  Anyway I was disturbed to see that this kind of thing was being sold on Steam & it was so easy to get to even if you were just a kid.  They need to change things there or even remove the content off Steam.

Examples of what they are selling ....

Sakura Spirit, Nekopara Volume 1

Now I am being told that the games are censored with private parts being covered by symbols and such but even then there still could be too much a child shouldn't see.

Anyway I have no link to someone who put this controversial story up because I am the one who came up with it.  I am thinking Steam should make sure kids are not seeing these games and if they feel they can't do a good enough job from kids seeing them they should be taken down.

There's no other real way of determining age.

If it's found you've falsified your age, your account can be penalized. It's against the ToS you agreed to upon making your account, so yea.

I'm actually fine with this, most prawn sites don't even require a "check mark for 18" thingy anymore, because you know how successful that was back in the day. At least steam has some way of trying to restrict it, better than the vast majority of, ehem, prawn sites.

Also, remember, steam markets items you'd be interested in based on previous viewings, searches, and purchases. I haven't seen any "adult" anime games on steam so far, so there's also that.

if you SJW had better things to do...

it's parents duty to monitor their own kids

why do you think seeing bunch of anime girls make it vulnerable than seeing people running & gunning all the time via Streaming?

there's whore in GTA, no one complaints about that.

reasons this post is stupid:

1. That would be censorship and that is more wrong than any personal (and subjective i might add) moral absolutes that you may be trying to impose on others.

2. Acting like this is a new issue is stupid. The only thing age gates have ever done is teach kids to subtract 18 from the current year.

3. This isnt steams fault. Steam is simply the provider of the content. I know this is going to sound cliche but perhaps if the kids parents are uncomfortable with him paling these games, like most parents would understandably be, they whould monitor the steam account.

4. Removing the content would mean it idnt just un avaliable to minors but is unavaliable to everyone. Which as previously stated is censorship which is wrong.

You're a bit late to the party on that, they've been on sale for a few months now. As far as stopping children from playing them, Valve doesn't curate the Steam storefront so little to nothing will be done about the presence of 18+ games on Steam.

Requiring a credit card be attached to the account is one way to try and stop kids from playing them.

The topic had nothing to do with those games.  Also sorry but I think perverted sex anime games are worse than them playing a fighter or shooter.

They could also check the age via the payment method, I'm not sure if they don't already do that.

Here in Germany you can't buy prepaid Steam Gift Cards if you're under 18 and obviously you can't have a credit card if you're a minor, so that leaves paypal as a method. I'm not sure if paypal provides steam the age, but steam could ask for it and you can't fake your age on paypal because they actually check your identity.

This isn't completely relevant but by chance are you a protestant/christian?

It's up to the parents to decide whether or not their child is mature enough. Frankly if a credit card is required to buy those games then I think that's enough proof that the purchaser is 18+

how would they possibly check? and if someone is to young to see most of a body(which in the US we see in school by like 5th grade) then they in no way should be allowed to spend money on video games by themselves.

I am not religious at all.  Also no it is not up to the parents to decide whether or not their child is mature enough as there are agencies out there who would be all over parents who let their kids play this adult anime for sure.

I never really cared about nudity.

Also, those "Kids" are going to be seeing a lot more real photoshopped skin on magazine covers.

The post I made was not stupid and you reasons why aren't going to change my mind or others minds on the fact that Steam could do more here to make sure kids are not playing the games.
