Hi, I am looking for a book to read.

I like fantasy novels and science-fiction but it can even be something from which I can learn something like computer science or some interesting physics phenomenoms or something like that.

Thanks in advance for recommendations.

I can recommend I, Robot by Isaac Asimov.

If you want the complete works, you should read The Complete Robot. But the best stories are the ones in I, Robot.

Is it the same story as the movie? I really liked it, I might buy the book if it's similar to that.

The 2004 movie takes some inspiration from one of the stories, and implements some of the generale themes of the book.

But the movie is mostly its own creation.

Have you read the lord of the rings?

The hitchhikers guide to the galaxy, a trilogy of 4 is brilliant

In order (depending on which you've read):

the hobbit -> the lord of the rings -> the silmarillion-> lost tales

the hitchhicker's guide to the galaxy

I, robot

Oh god, not the silmarillion! I can't stand that book. I read about a third of it and gave up from sheer boredom.

That sounds good. I will check it out. Thanks

I have heard about the Hobbit and I did read The Lord of the Rings but I have no idea what the The Simarilion and Lost Tales are about. I may check it out, thanks.

Outlander.

Great series, has a bit of time travel, but it's not central to the plot, more of a plot device.

Never heard of it. Ill check it out, thanks.

Definitely check it out, 8 long books, lots of romance, action, intrigue, suprising plot twists.

Not to mention, gobs of awesome Scottish highlander badassery.

Well, I have a book laying on my desk by Michio Kaku. It's called "Physics of the Impossible" and it's about sci-fi elements and some historical and theoretical relevance to them if you like that sort of thing.

The Internet is the first thing that humanity has built that humanity doesn't understand, the largest experiment in anarchy that we have ever had.

The movie cuts tons of crap out (I understand and I still liked the movie). I'd fully recommend reading the book.

I think you could consider reading Halo, if you want sci-fi that is.

I started with Halo Ghosts of Onyx.

http://www.halopedia.org/halo_novels

Here you can pick one to start from, there are several independent ones and 2 trilogies.

Spoiler

Case Bitfenix Ghost, Mobo Asus Maximus VIII Ranger, CPU i7 6700K @4.2 Ghz cooled by Arctic cooling Freezer i30, (barely). GPU Nvidia GTX 970 Gigabyte G1 @1519Mhz core, RAM 16Gb Crucial Ballistix CL16 @2400Mhz. SSD 128GB Sandisk Ultra Plus as my OS drive. HDD's  1TB  Seagate ST31000524AS its OEM, 3TB Seagate Barracuda, 2x 500GB WDC Blue (RAID 0)

If it isn't working absolutely perfectly, according to all your assumptions, it is broken.

It's certainly not for everyone ^^ but if you manage to read it the content is great.

The silmarillion is the postumous collection of tales that Tolkien wrote in the span of a couple of decades in an effort to shape his world and make it as believable and self-coherent as possible. That's what separates the lord of the rings from other fantasy books that followed its tracks. Tolkien actually figured out 4000 years of history to make sure everything matched in his book that was only going to cover two years. The lost tales are the ones that he never finished, but they still contain a lot of relevant information about the world and its characters.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

I decided to give the Outlander a go so I am set for few days if it will catch my interest :) Thanks.

Oh I know the silmarillion is meant to be good (I've heard of Fingolfin for example) as a friend of mine absolutely loved it. I might give it another crack this summer, as I felt there was a lot more to give from it than I had read.

Patrick Rothfuss, "Name of the Wind." It's a hefty chunk of a book to get into, but it's got all the fantasy elements set in a fictional, medieval society that you could ever hope for. Plus the main character is a total badass. It's pretty good, I need to get back into it myself.

  • A Wheel of Time
  • Dragonriders of Pern (science fiction and can teach you a lot depending on one of the many, many books)
  • A Song of Ice and Fire
  • Witchworld

Some of the best I could recommend I guess.
